Designed for those who love classic comforts, the Secretariat room features antique woods, leather accents, houndstooth patterns and gold finishes that create a warm, Virginian retreat. A black-and-white color scheme with bronze accents gives the Poe room an urban sensibility touched with a mid-century chic.

It's perfect for those who dream by day. The Faulkner room blends modern touches with the atmosphere of a more romantic era. Staying here is like settling into a private sitting room filled with literary ramblings and evening plans. Inspired by a sense of adventure and yet grounded with a modern, Southern elegance, the Meriwether room lets you know you've arrived at a highlight of your travels.
Services
The Townsman is the newest concept among Charlottesville, VA, hotels. In fact, it's so unique, we call it the unhotel. Our four individually themed rooms give you a one-of-a-kind experience each time you visit. Instead of charging you for things you'll never use, we've pared ourselves down to the essentials: incredible location; beautiful rooms; and great prices.
Guests of The Townsman receive a 10% discount on wine purchases at Stinson Vineyards, our family's winery in Crozet, VA. Proof of your reservation is required and accepted in email format. Enjoy access to Charlottesville's social club, The Common House, located directly behind The Townsman. Visit to eat, drink, relax or find a quiet place to work.

The room was ok and the bed was ok. I'm leaving a negative review because of the location. We knew that it was right off a main street on the downtown mall but we had no idea how loud it was going to be. We didn't sleep at all because of the loud (most likely drunk) people that were outside on the street. You can hear EVERYTHING outside! There was supposed to be a sound machine in the room but it was nowhere to be found. The room is very easy to get into and the instructions were very easy but we would never stay again. We booked 2 nights and we were so miserable the first night that we went home

Door code didn’t work and people were unbelievably rude on the phone. I booked this as a romantic getaway with my husband and all ambience was lost as we stood out in the freezing rain while we couldn’t get in the room and the people on the phone kept saying “give it a minute!” Please don’t use this hotel. So much more than the money was lost.

Im a TM/FOH for bands. Looking for rooms for our Southern Cafe show. DIDN'T book a room here. It seems real nice but has no flexibility with check in times as a result of their computer/booking system. Next.

I AM SO TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE THAT WAS PROVIDED BY THIS HOTEL!!! Last April, my husband and I made a reservation for next weekend to come to stay in Charlottesville for our first parents weekend. However, over the 6 months since the reservation was made MANY things have occurred because of the pandemic. Virginia was placed on NY's quarantine list, UVa. strongly discouraged visitors to come to Charlottesville, and I had to return to teach in a public school all day, every day. Students who I am responsible for academically but also for their physical well being. In any case, we forgot

Absolutely fantastic. Best spot, right on the mall area in downtown Charlottesville. Room decor is amazing (the Secretariat), bed was comfy, shower was nice, and balcony came in handy. TV was a little quirky at fist but we didn't come for the TV. It's within range of so many cool things in the mall itself and also within 15-30 mins drive of Monticello, hiking, and wineries (33 in the area). Please do yourself a favor and book the Townsman.

This hotel is terrific. Being right on the pedestrian mall is super nice. The rooms are very quaint. Not too big but not too small. Very nice bathroom. Room was kept very clean. There's water and coffee in the common area. No front desk... just keypad in. Couldn't be simpler. Highly recommend staying here. Especially nice for couples. Thanks Townsman crew!

Really cool little hotel that opens right onto the downtown mall. Check in is a breeze, you just get a code via email to unlock the door, and you also get a parking pass to use nearby. There are just a few uniquely decorated rooms.
