In the early 70s, Ken attended the University of San Diego. He was offered a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers, but due to a new addition to the Bretsch family (Jason), he turned it down. With his wife Linda, Ken opened Ken's Sporting Goods in 1976. Linda's experience as a bookkeeper for a hospital helped to keep Ken's Sporting Goods financially fit during its early years.

Very disappointed with this store! My daughter's letterman jacket was supposed to be ready this past week. I never received a call to confirm that it was ready for pick up, nor that there would be any delays. I call them to check the status and they ask me if anyone else could've picked it up because the can't find it. Of course the answer is NO. They don't have the jacket and they don't know where it is. They believe the seamstress has it, but cannot confirm that. This is extremely unprofessional! I ask to speak with management and of course, the manager will not be available until Monday. This
