Butano Geotechnical Engineering, founded in 2006, provides Geotechnical Engineering, Pavement Design, General Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, and testing and inspection services within the greater Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay areas. Our projects include city street, school athletic facilities and building, commercial buildings, residential, and public works.
We are a full service geotechnical firm with a fully equipped DSA and AASHTO certified in-house soil laboratory. Our firm provides Falling Weigh Deflection Testing (FWD) and pavement coring for existing pavement rehabilitation design. We also provide QA and QC for all our pavement projects. Services
We design rigid and flexible pavement systems. We have a falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and coring capabilities. Recycling the existing pavement structure using CIR, FDR, and overlays is our main priority. These methods keep cost down and allow for decreased off-haul and wear and tear on the neighboring streets from construction traffic.
See our award winning restoration of the Harbor Football Field through the APWA Monterey Bay! We provide full design and construction observation services. We will manage all the special inspection for your school project including: welding, glulam, shotcrete, soil and compaction testing, steel, and concrete testing.
Mr. Bloom has practiced geotechnical engineering in the greater Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay areas for the past 25 years. His completed projects include school facilities, commercial developments, public works, and single family residences. He has provided numerous design recommendations for foundation systems, retaining walls, pipelines, roadways and pavement sections, trail projects, dams, and cell towers.

Response, professionalism and technical expertise was not what I expected. The initial report provided to Santa Cruz County Planning Department had minor errors causing huge delays in the permitting process. After several (7) months and lack of communication a meeting with all parties at the County offices provided an understanding so Butano Engineering could rewrite the report with satisfaction and a proposed approval for the permit process. The corrected report was very slow. Butano Engineering projected a specific timeline and could not meet the dates provided causing a huge delay in the project
