Friends of the North Country, Inc. (Friends) is a not-for-profit New York State Rural Preservation Corporation. Founded in 1981, Friends has been dedicated to sustainable development and preservation of the North Country for almost 40 years. Friends is incorporated to work throughout New York State, although our primary focus is on the North Country region of Clinton, Franklin and Essex Counties.
Friends' Housing Counselors are experienced, trained professionals who can advise you on preventing foreclosure, buying a home, protecting your credit, and other issues. Friends' homebuyer education classes provide information and guidance relating to: the homebuying process, maintaining a sustainable budget, financing options and closing costs, calculating an affordable payment, and more.

These grant programs are designed to provide eligible cities, towns, and villages with the necessary financial assistance for activities that will develop decent, affordable housing, enhance quality of life, and encourage economic revitalization.
Friends of the North Country, Inc. is continuously seeking eligible General Contractors interested in working on publicly-funded programs in Clinton, Franklin and Essex Counties. Friends regularly applies for housing rehabilitation grant programs; we currently have active grant programs producing work, which is bid out to our pool of contractors.
Friends' staff is a group of dedicated professionals coming from a variety of backgrounds in the fields of community development, fundraising and grant writing, affordable housing, housing counseling, construction management, infrastructure project management, and federal and state grant project management.
