Here rustic mingles with contemporary elegance and every room offers a view. Yet, it is the comforting seclusion of the mountains, forests, fields and streams that truly sets historic Fort Lewis apart. Outdoor activities abound with hiking, biking, trout fishing or simply relaxing by our pristine swimming hole.

Nestled in a scenic river valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Fort Lewis Lodge & Farm is a country getaway located on a 3,300-acre estate first carved from the wilderness in the 1750's. The Lodge has been family owned and operated since opening in 1989, with loyal visitors coming back year after year for the refreshing retreat of nature, outdoor adventure, and seasonally-inspired cuisine.
This is where it all began in 1988. The main Lodge is centrally located with easy access to the Lewis Mill dining room, pavilion, and the river. Our eight lodge rooms are cozy and attractively furnished. The heart of the building is the post and beam gathering room for relaxing and mingling with friends.
In 1992 our affair with re-constructing historic log cabins began. After a long search we found the Walatoola and Uplands Cabins in neighboring Greenbrier River Valley. Years later we located the Tall Timbers and John Lewis Cabins in the tobacco region of North Carolina. In the case of each cabin we numbered the logs, loaded them on a truck, and then spent the following year bringing them back to life here at Fort Lewis.
Among many of Fort Lewis's happy surprises is Riverside House, a short three minute drive away, on the upper tract. There you will find five individual bedrooms all with private bathrooms. Peaceful and secluded, it offers all of the amenities of the Lodge with an added bonus, a picturesque view of the river and some of the finest fishing on the grounds.
For a family or group looking for a more private mountain experience, The Bend House is the ideal retreat. The home sits on a premier 165-acre tract adjoining Fort Lewis to the south. Featuring 360-degree mountain views and custom-built details, guests will be able to relax fully into the country living experience.

There are goods and bads about this place. The staff was super nice and friendly . The article in Food and wine was complete false advertising. The food is well done comfort food, but nothing to get excited about. Its a great place for small children as it has farm animals nearby, a easy to get to fishing/swimming hole, and they supply bikes/kayaks etc. The rooms are very plain. Im not really sure how they get the prices , as we felt the rates did not match the experience by a long shot . Its a long way down very small roads. Its a 1.5 hours from the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The farm and

A relaxing weekend with eleven family members who traveled from Baltimore, Va Beach, Lynchburg and Richmond. From fly fishing, frisbee golf, tubing on the Cow Pasture River, a sauna down by the river, drinks at Buck’s Bar and nightly laughs by the fire in the pavilion we all had a wonderful time! The food was delicious. Thank you!!!

The Cowden family and their team at Fort Lewis continue to set the standard for hospitality, food, accommodations and services. The River House, overlooking the Cowpasture River, is marvelous. Craft beer and nicely curated wines at Bucks Bar and dinners at The Mill are wonderful. I recommend Ft. Lewis to everyone and anyone who asks about mountain getaways.

The Fort Lewis Lodge is a beautiful place. The staff and owners were hospitable, friendly and created a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. Food was excellent, the farm and lodge were perfect and the location on the river was amazing. No one walks away from a meal there hungry but I do recommend bringing some snacks or fruit if you plan on hiking or want something to eat mid day. The nearest place to get anything is 30 minutes away, which is one of the nice things about the lodge! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We have been going to Fort Lewis Lodge for seven years. We originally looked for a vacation spot that was within 2 hours of our home. We owned a small business and needed a place to relax and unwind. Fort Lewis was perfect.
Like many other guests we return year after year to enjoy the delicious food, friendly staff, and beautiful countryside. One of my favorite activities is gathering with guests around the fireplace at the pavilion after dinner.

Oh my goodness, go here...just go.
What a wonderful and unique experience on a working farm. Beyond a typical B&B in so many ways. There are so many things to do or many beautiful places to sit and do nothing. Had a very active and relaxing weekend. The food is amazing, Caryl's combination of flavors are outstanding, trust me, try the things you may not think you'd like. The atmosphere is very laid back and very welcoming.

If your looking for a place to disengage from the busy world look no further, this is the place. I felt like I was staying with some relatives instead of at a resort. Staff is super hard working and goes all out to make sure your having a good time. The meals were FANTASTIC, talking to folks who have returned five to ten years in a row it's always been that way. They followed the COVID guidelines to the letter which was also a huge plus for us.

Fantastic experience! This seems to be the first review of Fort Lewis Lodge in the time of Covid-19, so I will focus on how well they have pivoted to address the new challenges. Except as specifically mentioned here, you should expect the same service, friendliness, beautiful grounds and wonderful overall experience reflected in previous five star guest reviews. Also see https://www.fortlewislodge.com/wellness-efforts/ for a detailed description of the health and safety efforts that Fort Lewis Lodge has put in place.

I absolutely enjoy this place. I first started going with a group of guys for the fishing, but after the first meal, it had me thinking my wife would like this. Like so many of my favorite restaurants, the sides are what make the meal, and the abundance of them at Fort Lewis is amazing. My favorite is the broccoli salad, with raisins, nuts and some amazing sauce I could eat the whole bowl! Carolyn will be happy to give you the recipe, but neither me or my wife can seem to duplicate it to her expertise. I've stayed in both the River House and the Silo, as well as the Walatoola, and enjoyed

My husband and I have been here multiple times and love it. The cabins are our favorite, although we have stayed in the silo also. The food is made on site and you get dinner and breakfast with the night. Simple but fresh and extremely yummy. This is our escape place. We almost hate to share about how much we love this place. It's addicting. Can't wait to come next year!

We were down to Ft Lewis and the Warm Springs area for three nights in August. Booked into the Tall Timbers cabin for a long getaway from the world. Got it. Our (AT&T) cells had no service, and no internet. Just as I planned. We went down to do absolutely nothing but hit a soak in the Jefferson Pools and nap. The Talls Timbers is two level, but you spend most of your time upstairs in the huge bedroom. Breakfast and dinner (family style) is included and is quite solid. The bar is open about an hour prior to dinner so drinks are at hand. My only recommendation, depending on your plans, is to

I have stayed here a few times and each time loved it. Every time I stayed in one of the silo rooms. Luxurious no, but comfortable, clean unique and so relaxing. This is a wonderful place to unplug and get away from it all. There are no TV's or phones in the rooms. Fort Lewis Lodge is definitely off the beaten track so if you are looking for shopping, restaurants or anything besides nature, you may want to head elsewhere.
Breakfast and dinner are included in the room rates and I personally enjoyed the meals quite a bit. Always fresh with something for everyone, served buffet style for the

This place is absolutely wonderful. My husband and I spent a few nights here for our "mini-moon" - our mini honeymoon immediately after our wedding last fall. We had the best time. We stayed in the lodge and the rooms were nothing to write home about, but the overall property, countryside, and food were all amazing. It's not super fancy - definitely more on the rustic side and completely isolated in the middle of nowhere - but we really loved it. It was wonderful to get away from the city! The owners were so friendly, we loved "Buck's Bar" where everyone goes before

I may have gone on an off-night, but my experience at Ft. Lewis Lodge was not what I had expected. We arrived about half an hour before dinner and grabbed some drinks at the bar area. We sat outside and enjoyed the view for about forty-five minutes until people started milling into the restaurant. We sat down and waited our turn to go up to the buffet line for our food. By the time we got there, the dishes had started to cool down. They served steak, crab cakes, salmon rice, stewed tomatoes, green beans, cranberry walnut muffins, dill pasta salad, spinach and mushroom salad, and corn salad. We

If you've had your fill of The Homestead's restaurants or are just looking for something new to try in the area, this will prove to be a satisfying experience. Wonderful, fresh food served buffet style...something for all tastes. If you're not staying on the property, be sure to call in advance to make sure they can accommodate your party. Allow ~45 minutes driving time from the Hot Springs area. Try to arrive 30-60 min before the dinner bell so you can enjoy a glass of beer or wine on the porch as you take in the marvelous setting of the historic Fort Lewis Lodge.

Great location for a family or couple get a way. Drive was well worth it as 6 of us ( 3 couples) arrived at the scenic Fort Lewis Lodge for a Sunday/Monday stay. The owners of the Lodge had thought of everything. Great views, comfortable rooms, superb food and more outside activities than you could take advantage off. The nightly fire under the outside pavilion topped off a delicious Sunday evening meal. The Cowpasture River gave us ample opportunity for swimming, kayaking as well as great catch and release fishing. Spending a relaxful evening outside the bar overlooking the fish pond was heavenly

I hate to write a review for Fort Lewis Lodge because I'm afraid that even more people will find this gem and ruin it for those of us who love it. However, I love Caryl and John too much not to give them the glowing 5 star review they deserve. Situated in the gorgeous mountains of Virginia near Millboro Springs, Fort Lewis Lodge is truly a place to escape life's hectic pace. My family has been vacationing at Fort Lewis for almost 10 years now and it seems to just get better every time. The crystal clear Cowpasture River flows through the property and allows for decent fishing as well

We stayed two nights and this place is great. The cabin was clean, roomy and well appointed. The food was to die for! The Innkeepers are very personable and you can tell they take pride in their work.
I love the mountains and I can't think of a more beautiful setting. The river is gorgeous and inviting. We had two days of good fishing and made many happy memories. The price may seem a little high when you compare it to other Inns or B&Bs but breakfast AND dinner are included and if you walk away hungry, that's you're problem.
