When I was a suburban child in the 1980s, my worldview was inspired by television. Everything was so safe and sanitized, as was decided by the business people who ran the main three television networks. My worldview didn't keep up with my imagination. In my teen years, I would wander around NYC. That city changed everything.
One day, when I was 14, I found myself in a bookstore where nude art books were on display. Everything television was censoring was not being censored in this city. Fast forward to 2018 and I never forgot that book. It was the photography of Helmut Newton. The book and its images serve as symbols of freedom and exploration.
