Land Design, Inc. is a landscape consulting and design company based in Rensselaer county serving all of Albany's Capital District. John and Laura Kelly have owned and operated Land Design, Inc. since 2003. Together they have over 30 years of landscape and interior design experience. Let us collaborate with you to create a garden to look at, a sanctuary to be in, a yard to enjoy with your family.
From simple plantings to multi-year master plans, we're here to help. 2021 Update: John Kelly is now certified by the only national landscape designer organization, APLD. What we do is more similar to a landscape architect's role rather than a contractor's or builder's.

Services
John and Laura Kelly are landscape designers with over 38 years of office and field experience between them. Working with a landscape designer is different than working with a typical landscape contractor. What we do is more similar to an architect's role in home construction rather than a contractor's or builder's.
A. A contractor is there to sell you products and services. We offer our 40 years of field and office landscape design experience as your advocate, providing detailed advice that you will use if you do it yourself or hire a contractor. Having one plan to shop with 3 contractors can help you save thousands and know you have a long term plan that is yours!
For Native planting designs we do offer installation and maintenance services since typical landscape contractors are not familar with the new techniques involved. And also because We love doing it!. We have been incorporating native plants in our designs for years. In the last few years we have installed large native only gardens and it has been an amazing learning experience.
This new service allows us to design simple landscape plantings using measurements and photos you provide with no visit required to your home. As with our flagging consultations, you'll receive our own collection of planting tricks and instructions. Since this eliminates the time and work of coming to your home and evaluating the site you'll save significantly on the design fee.
2 Hour Landscape Plant Flagging Consultation where we'll create a plant list and flag the plant locations. Our 2 hour Landscape Plant Flagging Consultations are as close to an "instant" landscape design as you can get. They are best utilized for small planting situations in areas without existing plant material ( so we can place the flags correctly) where you need help in plant selection and placement.

I highly recommend hiring Land Design, Inc. if you're looking for help designing and implementing plans for a landscape.
We now know that they design hardscapes too, but I didn't find them until we started thinking about adding plants to the front of our house. We had just put in new front steps, a walkway, and retaining wall planters, so the space was pretty bare and lacking any life. I knew it would be a daunting task to research enough plants to cover the 300+ square feet of space, and not only find plants that would meet our needs (partial shade, deer resistant, low maintenance
