Services
Our office was opened by Tracie Barnes in 2005, and was called Counseling Services of Northern NY. The office was originally going to be a private part-time counseling office for Ms. Barnes. But as the community became aware of the services provided, Ms. Barnes was not able to accommodate the need for services.
This group is for the adolescent female that is having a difficult time with school, peer pressure, and anxiety. It is designed to teach the healthy coping skills needed in order to face life's daily challenges. This group will run on an as-needed basis. MHCSNNY requests that anyone interested in attending a group must have a 1-hour evaluation.
Our anger management group will run for 8 consecutive weeks. Certificates and letters of completion are awarded when the group is completed. This group is an interactive group designed to teach positive coping skills to those having difficulty controlling anger outbursts. MHCSNNY requests that anyone interested in attending a group must have a 1-hour evaluation.
The group will focus on the healthy vs. unhealthy patterns within a relationship. The group offers support, education and insight to those women who have, or are experiencing, domestic violence. The group's focus is to become more aware of unhealthy relationship patterns. The group offers the tools necessary to cope and change behavior patterns into a more healthy way of living.
The goal of this Adolescent group is to empower youth in our community to find their way through social-emotional support and by building safe, accepting communities. The group's primary mission is to provide resources, services and support for adolescents struggling with stress management, mental health disorders, and bullying.

I attempted to get seen at this office because I had heard amazing things about one of the counselors here. However, that particular counselor only does group sessions now. I still knew I needed to be seen and was told that there was a wait list but I’d be added to that. A week or two passed without hearing from the office so I messaged them on FB and was told to be patient and they’d get back to me soon. Waited another week or so and called again. I was told I’d hear back in what was expected to be a couple of weeks. I couldn’t wait any longer to get an appointment and got into Holly Bender

I have nothing but great things to say about my counselor, Christine. I have been a patient of hers for years on and off and she's always welcomed me back with no judgement whatsoever. I think you have to have a special bond with your counselor or else its not going to work out. You may not find the right counsellor on the first try and maybe they can recommend someone else that may be a good fit for you. It takes work, an open mind and trust on your part also. It really helps me to have someone to vent to and I know they're not gonna go tell everyone what I have said.
