If you and your partner are planning to get divorced, you can do it together. This is sometimes referred to as "uncontested divorce" or "amicable divorce, " and it is a form of no-fault divorce. You must file all papers with the appropriate Massachusetts Probate Court (Family Law Court) and pay a fee of $215.
File a "Report of Absolute Divorce or Annulment." This is a form that helps the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and Statistics to record the divorce. Fill out and file Financial Statements. These forms disclose financial information that is necessary for coming to an agreement on Division of Marital Assets, Child Support, and Alimony (see Separation Agreement, below).

Julia actually came to my rescue twice. The first time, I was fortunate enough to stumble across her website while looking for divorce mediation. We did not have the time or money for court battles; we just needed someone to insert some sense and sanity into what is already a tricky and painful process.
Pensions are considered marital property that can be divided between divorcing spouses, just like a house or bank account can be divided. For many Massachusetts couples, a public pension-whether MTRS, MA SERS or other state, county, or town pension-is the largest asset that they own.
Even though the person who is earning a pension at their job might not begin drawing on that pension for decades, the pension has a value that needs to be divided during divorce. If you don't understand how pensions work in divorce, it could cost you many tens of thousands of dollars.

Child support is money paid from one parent to another to financially support children when the parents no longer live together. Parents are obligated to support their children financially, regardless of whether they are still married (but living apart), are divorced, or were never married.
The amount of child support depends on a combination of a) how much time the children spend with each parent, b) the incomes of the parents, and c) the number of children the parents have together. The income figures used are adjusted for the amount of money each parent spends on childcare and health care (including dental and vision), and on whether a parent is paying out child support or alimony from a previous relationship.

Couples who are divorcing need to divide all their marital property and debts, assigning property, money, and debts to one spouse or another. All property, income, and debts acquired during the marriage are considered "marital"-it does not matter if one spouse made more money than the other or if the couple kept separate bank accounts and paid for expenses separately.
Alimony is court-ordered payment of monetary support from one spouse to the other for a period of time after divorce. You can calculate the length and duration of general term alimony at the MA alimony calculator. Attorney Rueschemeyer mediates divorces for ALL Massachusetts courts and counties via Zoom.

Julia made an extremely difficult and emotional process as smooth as possible. She was prepared and facilitated our two sessions with compassion and an open mind. Julia presented topics we had to discuss and come to terms with, which made the time so worth it. Julia prepared all necessary paperwork and we simply had to sign where she told us to! While I never wish divorce on anyone...if you have to go through the ordeal I highly recommend Julia.

After viewing Julia's thorough website, we chose her as a meditator for our divorce. Obviously this process is something that no one ever wants to go through, but Julia made it as easy as possible. She and her assistant always clearly explained each step of the process and were happy to answer any questions we had. There were no surprises and we felt that they prepared us for each step. If you find yourself looking for a mediator to assist you with your divorce, Julia is an excellent choice! She is extremely knowledgable, experienced and patient. Thank you very much!

Julia was excellent, well-prepared and knew exactly what to do when things seemed to go astray. She is exhaustive in her questioning so she gets a real feel for common ground. The judge at our hearing was extremely impressed by our separation agreement and asked more than once who our mediator was and commented that everyone should be using the format she provided. Thank Julia!

Julia was amazing! The process was actually so easy with her. I could not have asked for anything better. It was certainly a stressful time and there was back and forth but Julia explained and patiently, calmly handled and explained everything. I hope not to "need" her again but I would use her in a heart beat! Highly recommended! Thanks Julia!!!

We both were very impressed with Julia's approach to mediation. She was understanding of the emotional strain we were under yet kept us focused on "disentangling" our lives equitably. She was efficient and thorough, kind and calming. I very much appreciated her quick responses to emails and the way in which she respectfully helped us resolve concerns that may have seemed small to some but were important to us.
