Services
Gulf South Eye Associates offers a full range of eye care to the adult population of the East Bank of Jefferson Parish and its surrounding communities. While specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, the doctors of Gulf South Eye Associates routinely see and treat patients suffering from glaucoma and retinal problems.
Gulf South Eye Associates, comprised of Drs. Fitzmorris, Boyle, Sibley and Kennedy, is a private Ophthalmology practice established in 1986. We are all board-certified surgeons with over 65 years of experience, our staff is highly trained and certified in the latest eye care techniques and products, and our goal has always been to preserve, restore and enhance the patient's vision.
Dr. Catherine Fitzmorris, a native of New Orleans graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University and received her medical education at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Fitzmorris was the Chief Resident for the Department of Ophthalmology during her residency. She has been featured in New Orleans magazine several times as the city's "Top Ophthalmologist" and "Nurses Choice".
Cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens. When we look at something, light rays travel into our eye through the pupil and are focused through the lens onto the retina, a layer of light-sensitive cells at the back of the eye. The lens must be clear in order to focus light properly onto the retina. If the lens has become cloudy, this is called a cataract.
With cataract surgery, your eye's cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant (called an intraocular lens or IOL). Cataract surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure and does not require an overnight hospital stay. Before surgery, the length of your eye will be measured in what is called an A-scan, and the curve of your cornea will be measured in a technique called keratometry.

I am a patient if Dr. David Kennedy. Without a doubt, he deserves way more than 5 stars! His bed side manner is impeccable! His perfection for cataract surgery, serum tears and any medical situation is first class. Dr. Kennedy has contacted me several times on my personal cell to check on my recovery of an eye issue.
I have seen more than my share of specialists at my age. I have NEVER had a doctor more concerned about the health of my eyes than Dr. Kennedy.
Do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment!

I've been trying to book an appointment with these guys for weeks. Sent emails and messages through their website--nothing. Probably for the best if that is any indication of the time and effort they put into patient care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sibley for many, many years. I have always appreciated his care and concern. Recently had cataracts removed in both eyes by Dr. Boyle. Both doctors are kind, courteous and knowledgeable in caring for their patients.

I highly recommend Dr. Fitzmorris to anyone looking for a eye doctor. She was so good and kind to come in on Easter Sunday for an emergency eye tear to the retina. What kind of DR would do something like that. not many! Please go and see her at Gulf Coast Eye Associates at EJGH.

Dr. Boyle is nice, but everything else about it is a train wreck. Don't bother.

Horrible experience with attempt for cataract surgery. Poor ethics, unorganized billing and careless staff. They failed to notify us of potential complication within surgery scheduling, what options are available and make the most sense to have the procedure completed completely in the most economical fashion. Unless you want to do all the work, have unexpected complications and your eye care specialist only concerned about growing their own pocket and not YOUR best interest for your health and well-being… FIND ANOTHER DR. my family will most certainly not be back. I feel molested.

THIS PLACE IS THE WORST!!!!!!!!!! I arrived to my appointment 30 mins early. The wait here is the worse. The door was open and I began to notice that I was the ONLY person of color in the entire office. WAS THIS THE REASON THEY MADE ME WAIT SO LONG????? I finally saw Dr. David Kennedy after waiting 2 HOURS. He was rude and no help at all. The "exam" he did only lasted about 5 mins. I tried to order another pair of glasses, but the lady took one look at me and said, "We don't accept your kind of insurance." She NEVER asked me which one I had. Don't waste your TIME or MONEY here.

Top Notch Service. Had an emergency Glaucoma attack and was seen (no pun intended) immediately. Dr. Catherine was right on and extremely professional with a smile. Her team is just as delightful with a sense of human kindness.

These women do not care for their customers. I had a broken contact lens and was promised a trial pair. The woman on the phone promised a trial pair, but upon arriving at the clinic, they refused to give me one claiming that they told me "no" on the phone. As I explained my situation that I was in need of a contact as my last pair was broken and I was basically blind without it, they did not show any compassion. I have since moved to Eyecare Associates and they are wonderful.
