Located in downtown Raleigh's burgeoning Glenwood South area, Olive Architecture was formed in 2009 by Principal architects, Andy Lawrence and Tom Murphy. Our firm's name was inspired by the olive tree which can live up to 1,000 years still bearing fruit with the trunk changing and thickening into a complex ever-changing form as it ages-embodying endurance, adaptability, and sustainability.
Each of our Principals bring over 35 years of diverse architecture and design experience-leading projects from initial design concept to occupancy and beyond. Olive's success is built on the commitment that the client will always have a principal involved in their project. We do not want to be the firm that hands off projects to staff.

The hotel and restaurant are named after the Proximity Manufacturing Cotton Mill (1896) and Proximity Print Works Mill (1912), which are central to Greensboro's rich textile history. The hotel features 7,000 square feet of private event space, a spacious fitness studio, outdoor swimming pool, and a "guest living room" on each floor.
Goals: The client wanted to purchase, expand and renovate the existing building to create a strong brand image for the company that was representational of repurposed industrial buildings native to owners' Buffalo, New York hometown area. This project represented the first Owner-occupied restaurant for Buffalo Brothers.
The 105-room hotel features 4,000 square feet of contemporary and flexible function meeting space. The meeting facility offers separate catering, and food- delivery and prep areas that support convenient hotel-guest circulation; and independent facility users. Goals: The hotel was to be located on a small sloping site within a 4-parcel master planned commercial development.
Goals: The goal was to build a state-of-the-art kennel and cattery to serve the Chapel Hill-Durham and surrounding areas with boarding and supervised daycare where pets are loved and cared for in the cleanest and safest environment.
The facility cares for both holiday and daily boarding needs plus offers a doggie daycare program allowing dogs a chance to run and play with other dogs under careful supervision helping to improve behavior and fitness.Indoor and outdoor amenities accommodate all weather conditions. Design Considerations: This project involved the purchase of an existing high bay structure previously used as an adventure park building.
