Services
Rio Grande Hospital is part of Valley Citizens' Foundation for Healthcare, Inc., a community non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide health care to the Western San Luis Valley. The tradition of hospital care at Del Norte started when St. Joseph's Hospital opened in 1907. St. Joseph's closed its doors in 1993.
Del Norte was founded as a service center for the mining activities going on in the area, becoming the supply base and financial center at the west end of the San Luis Valley. Today, Del Norte has become the Gateway to all season fun, from biking, hiking, camping, fishing, backpacking, hunting, shopping, to skiing and snowmobiling.
Monte Vista is located in South Central Colorado near the center of the San Luis Valley, which is the first in a series of basins along the Rio Grande. We are proud to announce that Monte Vista Medical Clinic was recently (January / 2020) honored to be recognized as an Exemplary Provider by The Compliance Team.
Andres Torres was born and raised in the San Luis Valley. He attended Monte Vista High School, completed his undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine at Colorado State University and received his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He enjoys spending time with family and loved ones, being outdoors and participating in just about any sports.
Call your primary care physician to get your referral for a colonoscopy at Rio Grande Hospital. For more information please call 719-657-4114. Every insurance plan is different; please call your insurance carrier to determine whether or not you need a referral from your primary care physician. As a rule, patients with Medicare and a PPO insurance plan do not need a referral.

All the care my parents and I have received at Rio Grande Hospital has been excellent. My emergency room visits have been met with prompt and competent attention. All lab work and tests have been performed skillfully and courteously. For a small hospital, this place is awesome.

Jeremy Porrett is the best Physical Therapist here at the RioGrande Hospital. I have been to many therapists including at RioGrande Clinics but they don’t care about your progress or your pain level just numbers. With Jeremy numbers goes out the window. He truly cares about your progress . Do more of what feels good and less of what hurts is his saying…
You will hear how Andres another PT is great. But Jeremy might not stand out but he is a hidden gem. In my books Jeremy is the best. And if you need therapy I would pick him.
He recommended water therapy for me and it’s been working wonderful

Came in to get my leg checked out after taking a hard fall cycling - they had one physician at the er who was able to immediately get me diagnosed and got me on my way to recovery.. so grateful there was a hospital I could go to! Saved me a possible infection in my hematoma as well as the informative staff who was able to help me in many ways!!

We loved this hospital!!! The staff were all so nice, starting with the ER Doc who went out of his way to assist. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. Dr. Rivera really helped my husband and his numbers changed dramatically positive overnight under his care. Beti was so bubbly and helpful. Hospital stays are not pleasant, but this one was over the top! Thank you for helping my husband recover!!

Thank you for taking such good care of my husband today! Kidney stones and vacation are not a good combo. Thankfully Dr Walker and the ER staff did a wonderful job getting him comfortable and on the mend.

What a blessing this hospital was.
We’re from Houston and flew to South Fork going from sea level to 8200 ft altitude. We have a 9 week old with us and we’re worried she may have had altitude sickness. They were quick to get us in, very accommodating, and just very nice to a mother who was overly concerned.

This hospital had a awesome staff. From the Emergency Room Doctors to the Hospital Internists. I was totally frustrated with the hospital in Alamosa with how they were handling my mom's issues, but the these doctors actually did listen to my concerns and actually did something about it. I also want to give both the nursing staff and the dietary staff thumbs up for the care they gave.

Saturday afternoon and I wanted to see if my super fussy baby had an ear infection. So I stopped in. They were thorough and quick and it turns out she simply has a URI and is getting her first molars. My experience was equally positive a few months ago when my older daughter needed treatment for a migraine. Very professional, friendly staff.
* Edited to add, her ear drum ruptured 2 days later. So the ER doc wasn't especially adept at knowing the signs of ear trouble. In hind sight I'm a little disappointed.
