A French immigrant named Louis Dufilho, Jr. became the first licensed pharmacist in the county in 1816. He opened his own pharmacy in 1823 in New Orleans, where he offered traditional medications as well as Voodoo remedies, opium, leeches, and a soda fountain.

I needed to get a prescription filled for my child who was very ill, and Westgate Family Pharmacy was closing in 10 minutes! I called them and asked if they could deliver it, but they said their driver was already out on deliveries, and would not be back in time for another delivery. I was then put on hold, and then handed over to the owner Najswa (sp?), she asked where I lived, and when I told her my address she kindly offered to personally drop off the prescription on here way home! Now you can't get much better service that that in this day and age!
