Welcome to the official site of the Family Karate Center of Tavares. We offer traditional Japanese Karate instruction in Lake County, FL. Our style is Sansei Shito Ryu with Goshin Budo Jiu Jitsu and Dento Ryu Kobudo. We focus on building Karate skills through patience, discipline, and control. Because we offer a traditional training program it is not necessary to be athletically gifted to succeed.

Services
Shito Ryu is one of the 4 major Karate styles practiced today. It was foundeded by Kenwa Mabuni (1889-1952) in 1931 from the older styles of Shuri Te and and Naha Te. Mabuni was trained by lengendary Karate Masters Anko Itosu and Kanryo Higaonna. In 1929 he started teaching Karate in Osaka Japan. At first, he called his style Hanko Ryu but later changed it to Shito Ryu in Honor of Itosu and Higaonna.
Karate is a martial art that originated in Japan. It is considered a stand up fighting style that focuses on using empty hands and feet as weapons of self defense. In fact, Karate means "Empty (Kara) Hand (Te)". Though we focus initially on striking, grappling is also part of the curriculum. There are many styles of modern Karate from Japan and Okinawa.

If you are looking for an authentic Japanese style karate look no further. The people here are passionate and it shows in their teaching. My 9-year-old has been enrolled for only 2 weeks now and already there is a shift in his attitude. He actually wants to go here. Everybody is super nice and the price is very comparable to other. Way cheaper than martial arts world.
