Services
Located on the corner of Main Street and Old Highway 61 in downtown Hinckley, the cafe and bus stop began serving its donuts and coffee in 1920 with Mr. & Mrs. Isodore Wendt as proprietors for the next 27 years. Tobie himself served as the cafe's best public relations man. In 1966, after 19 memorable years as owners, Tobie and Ann decided to retire from the restaurant business.
Our original dough recipe swirled with cinnamon sugar and topped with Tobies' own rich caramel or homemade frosting. Our bakers produce thousands a day for our satisfied customers! Tobies cake donuts are different because they are made from scratch with our buttermilk formula and have the flavor, weight and density to set them apart from any manufactured kind.
At Tobies Tavern, we're proud of our food. Check out our extensive menu and our monthly specials for pub burgers, chicken wings, pizza, and more. See our Events Calendar for Special Events and Entertainment. Our lounge also offers lottery and all of the amenities needed to watch your favorite sports.
What better way to meet halfway? Tobies' banquet facility houses groups of up to 300, and our famous cooking will make them want to stay awhile. Found in the lower level of the Tobies main building, our banquet facility has flexible features to host your unique event. Customize your menu from our food selection, which ranges from sandwiches to hand-carved prime rib, and everywhere in between.
Purchase eight or more gallons of gas at Tobies Station, and you'll receive $1 off any car wash. Just like our gas station and bakery, our car wash is ready for one-stop service. Our wax free wash features a (seasonal) de-bugging, a two-pass presoak, a high-pressure wash around and underneath the vehicle, and a spot free rinse and dry.

Just about every time we are close to Hinckley, Tobies is a must stop. For brunch I ordered their French Toast. It was made of a sweet dough of some sort with cinnamon swirls in it, then dunked in an egg batter, fried to a beautiful golden brown. It a as served with butter and maple syrup. The only thing I can think of to make it absolutely perfect is a cream cheese/maple or cream cheese/cinnamon condiment cup to use in the event someone doesn't like maple syrup.
No stop at Tobies would be complete without a stop in their bakery. Their selection of rolls, breads & other goodies leaves me wanting

Great food. Very busy. Ordered curbside, wonderful waitress but she gave me change back because they ran out of cheesecake. She was mad no one called so we could pick something else. Had the walleye sandwich with onion rings.

Waitress was really friendly, but a little busy. The restaurant is on the large side so not very quiet and romantic, if that is what you are looking for. I was excited to try the Carmel roll but the bottom was just about burnt, which made it seem dry. My last bite of it I cut off the bottom piece and it was better. The food was fine. I would definitely give them another try.

German Reuben sandwich had barely any meat on it. Wrong kind of bread.Sauerkraut should of been on it but had coleslaw on it. Nacho rio had ordered it to eat they packed it to go. Was not as did described. No cheese, no salsa, 4 jalapeños barely any onions and so barely anything like it should of been. Mushroom Swiss burger barely any mushrooms on it. Tasted like a cheap burger from the freezer. Food and drinks took a very long time. Waiter said they were under staffed and had too many to serve. If that’s the case why are they seating everyone! We were not the only ones to complain. Other tables

My mother and myself decided to get an early dinner before going back to our hotel. I got the surf and turf, she got the coconut shrimp. Waitress was polite but didn't ask us what sides we wanted. My steak was supposed to be a 8oz tenderloin (medium rare) and what I got appeared to be pot roast that was well done and under seasoned. The Lobster was over done. The mashed potatoes were good but the gravy tasted like it was from a can. My meal costed $35.95. My mother got 3 shrimp that were supposed to be jumbo, they were not. Her meal was $20.95. Our beverages were only half full each time. I was

Tobies is a popular restaurant and bakery for the northern Minnesota traveler. It's located directly off the exit of I-35, so it's not out of the way The bakery counter has a big selection of treats like donuts and cinnamon rolls, and the portion sizes are generous. There is also an outdoor window serving ice cream too with unique local flavors. There is also a restaurant inside if you have the time to sit down. They have outdoor tables for when the weather is nice too.

Tobies Tavern, the restaurant portion, on the end. I haven't been here in years. We were here Memorial Day 2021. They seated us on the bar /pull tab side, which is cooler in temperature, so be aware. Full menu. I had 2 eggs, bacon and subbed caramel roll for toast (for an extra $1) so $9.95.and my husband had 2 eggs, bacon, subbed French fries for hash browns, and toast. Very quick service considering it was Memorial Day. Caramel rolls were very fresh!

This place is great! A must whenever we visit the area. We usually just come for breakfast, but the whole menu is fantastic. This recent visit to the area, we made sure to come in twice. Both visits were excellent. Chelsea and Lisa took very good care of us in the dining room, and all of the staff in the bakery and gift shop were so helpful.
They are careful to sanitize tables between guests, and the manager even brought out a small vacuum cleaner to keep the carpet spotless.
We're excited to take some pies and pastries home with us. Thank you for everything!
