In 1964, Jerry Chavez started roofing at 16 years old. He worked for his Brother at his roofing company until 1984. In 1984, he and his wife Dawn along with their 3 young children, Dana, Carlene & Jeremy, packed up and moved to Central Oregon. In 1985, he decided to start his own company, Chavez Roofing LLC.
In the early years it was only Jerry doing the roofing. After a few months, Dawn started roofing with Jerry, after work Dawn would do the books in the office. In 1987 their youngest daughter, Emily was born. Dawn was in the office full time and Jerry had a new partner, " Molly, The Famous Roofing Dog".
