Don Jose Family Mexican Restaurant

Love love this place! Was glad to be in town for a night and able to order out. This place is my benchmark for good Mexican food ever since I moved away from the area.

Normally we have great food here..and service..but you get the "off days"..it's days when the some of the food tastes re-heated, microwaved, not flavorful, etc...and in a month's time and we eat there around 4 times that month...2 times of those 4, we get the "off days"...so on the FOOD ASPECT I will only do 3 stars..but you guys are still really great, but as customers we count on great tasting food;)..Ty for all the good food you do serve us guys!

Busy on a Sunday midday and with good reason. We noticed how popular it was with the local Hispanic community which speaks well for the food. I had the Burrito Chorizo with eggs which I really enjoyed. Chorizo was flavorful without being too spicy. The red sauce had a nice sweetness to it. My wife enjoyed her Quesadilla as well. Food was delivered quickly and piping hot. Service was prompt and professional.

Lovely large pork Verde tostado. Their hot salsa is the best I have ever had. Wonderful food. Service was good also. I got sat at the worst table, where people come in and hang over ones food, laughing and talking. They graciously moved me to the second worst table, next to the kitchen. Such is often the fate of a solo dinner. I do wish server's would ask about desserts or fun after dinner drinks rather than just presenting the bill. It would increase the bill as well as their tips. My Pollo Asado and my friend's sopa tortilla were so delicious! Norma was our server, and not only was she delightful and kind, she was very efficient and knew what I needed when I said I couldn't have gluten. 😊 Can't wait to come back, and I hope when we do, we get to see Norma again!

There was seriously a whole onion and green pepper in the burrito chile verde and hardly ANY meat. What was left of the onion and green pepper is in the picture, and as you can see, it's an absurd amount. On the other three meals, the tortillas were soggy. It was gross.

Friendly & quick service, very clean, and excellent food! If you're in Decorah it's a must stop. Good size portions, definitely will not leave hungry. Best Mexican Restaurant we've had in a long time!

We love going to this family-owned local restaurant! The portions are huge. You will certainly not leave hungry, and you'll often have leftovers. Meals come with chips and salsa on the house to keep you (and your kids) occupied while you're waiting for your food to arrive. They currently have curbside pick up and it's extremely easy to use since dine-in options are on hold (due to the pandemic). The banana margarita or organic triple berry margarita are delicious! They are also happy to make the blended drinks kid-friendly (don't forget the whipped cream and cherry)! You will not be disappointed

Excellent authentic Mexican food! The service was incredible too as well as pretty quick. We didn’t have to ask for a thing. Within a minute of sitting down we had chips & salsa with waters! We miss our Southern California Mexican food but this absolutely satisfied our appetite, we will definitely return!!!

Unsatisfactory in several regards.
The overall bad experience began as my group and I entered the establishment. We approached the host to get an estimate on the wait time. He said it would be 15 to 20 minutes. When we asked if he needed a name he replied that he would remember us. Another group came in about 15 minutes after us and was immediately seated. We pointed this out and a waiter came to help and managed to seat us.
Our waiter Esteban was very polite. He is the only reason this review has two stars instead of one.
