North Central Health Care's roots can be traced back to 1893 with the opening of the Marathon County Asylum for the Insane. Despite the stigma that term carries in some circles, this was a center built to feel like home and provide people with the compassionate care they needed. In 1910, the Marathon County Home and Hospital began providing care for people specifically to treat tuberculosis.

I have to agree with all of the reviews. The person giving positive reviews clearly was there for a vacation and not treatment.
The crisis center is terrible at its best. I agree with other reviews the check in process isnt good and the employees are unprofessional and not helpful. I enjoyed spending time with my child but in a lobby while he was acting out wasn’t appropriate or appreciated. Who ever is running that program really needs to get it together or hopefully the north healthcare center replaces that person. Can’t let people like this hide in jobs they’re not qualified to do

Understaffed and we are seeing a system wide failure for youth crisis services in our community and beyond. Complete lack of services for youth in crisis who have mental health and safety needs, services are being denied by NCHC, the secure shelter, and there is a shortage of available foster homes. Children displaying behaviors that are dangerous to themselves and others being immediately screened out with no where else to go but back to a risky situation.

This rating is for the Crisis center, and the inpatient youth hospital, located in Wausau. This is going to be long, but thorough.
I brought my teenage child in to the crisis center, because we felt he needed to be admitted. We arrived around 7-8pm.. We were brought into a dingy, dirty what almost appeared to be a locker room, with a conference table to sit at. There was gum stuck on the bare cement block walls.
The room was extremely hot and uncomfortable. The intake person seemed to be very confused and unsure. She told us she would try to get my child admitted since it is voluntary, but said

Specifically reviewing "Lakeside Recovery"
I didn't learn anything new. They had run out of the "getting started" workbooks and the order arrived the day I left. Food is not quite the quality you'd get at a public school in the area. There's a smart board you can use for Netflix or YouTube, but not during the day and you have to keep it PG-13. One staff member heard the F-word and ran over to turn off the program.
No smoking on the entire healthcare center campus (for patients, anyway. Staff smoke in their cars in the parking lots all around the building), and no chewing tobacco, e-cigs, or vapes

Absolutely terrible There. I was looking into services this week for a struggling family friend and this place was not helpful. First mistake was calling and speaking to the crisis center. Not only did the little boy that answered not have correct information he laughed at inappropriate things. I called back the next day and spoke with someone that claimed to be manager but she was confused about what services were offered. This place is a bad as the reviews say.

As a LONG TERM resident (5-1/2 yrs) I would like to say that NCHC is a clean friendly place to live. The staff has a personal connection with every patient. Here you have a deep well of experience to trust. Everyone can find something to complain about no matter where they are. But if they look around and talk to other patients they will find they are very blessed to be here. I know I am.
