OMG the experience of this magical haunted hotel. The staff..wonderful. The rooms..AMAZING. The hospitality..perfect. It was the most wonderful getaway and I do believe we met TJ the resident ghost. Three stairs in the mission hotel are steep be very careful but the majesty of this piece of history should be on your bucket list.

We’ve never spent the night at the St. James but we eat in the hotel restaurant every time we are in Cimarron when we go to Philmont. The restaurant is FABULOUS!! The food is great, and we sing the praises of the Adult Mac & Cheese. It is so good we got an order to go! And don’t think this is a side dish-sized portion of mac & cheese. There were three of us eating it (more like fighting over it…) and we still had extra. Don’t let the chilies turn you off of this. It’s not spicy. The chilies add a bright flavor with just a tiny bit of zip. The cheese is rich and creamy and there is just

We were going to the Chicago concert at Treasure Island and booked a room to stay at the St. James. The concert was a nice surprise gift for my wife, as this is one of her favorite bands. After I made the reservation, I called the hotel and asked if we could get one of the nicer rooms in the price range I paid, as this was kind of a special night. I didn't ask for an upgrade, just a nice room. The lady I spoke with told me she would book us in one of their river view rooms, and also she was putting a note in the reservation of "Do Not Move" so we would be assured of getting a nice room.

This place is historic! Everything from bullet holes in the ceiling to steer heads on the walls. Tons of antiques and a beautiful setting inside and out. Everyone was incredibly nice and welcoming. At night there is a completely different and somewhat younger crowd. We had a great stay and enjoyed a steak dinner.

History lovers, this is the haunt for you. The food is fantastic and the service grand. We've dined indoors and out with equal pleasure. I'm fond of the outdoor murals and vegetation. My husband finds the bullet riddled ceiling of the saloon most visually exciting.
For extra fun, take a walk along the upstairs halls and get a sense of times gone by.

Rude!!!
I tried to take family to eat there , walked in and the restaurant was empty, but they refused to seat us because they were expecting large group. I looked at them confused and told my wife that they couldn't seat us because they were full????
Once i said that the guy telling me this said" if your going to be fu$&ing rude then leave. So if you are going though this little town skip this rude rude tourist trap and eat at one of the other local places

This review is for the restaurant not the hotel.
We eat here often as we live part time in the area. We think the food is good.
But over time service has deteriorated considerably.
Even taking into consideration the impact of COVID and labor shortages service today was horrible. So bad in fact that after receiving our drinks I had to ask the hostess to send our server over. Still no server and no chance to order.
After 35 minutes of being ignored we left.
Bob Funk you can do better than this. Pay attention to your properties.
YMMV.

I love everything about this place! On this trip I tried the pie and ice tea. The Frito Pie is a New Mexico staple and these guys do a great job. The Cherry Pie was also exceptional... the crust was perfect. The portions are generous and service is attentive without being pesky.
There's more to see here than the food. Jesse James stayed here. There are bullet holes in the ceiling from the Wild West days. The decor reminds me of the old lavish ranch homes I visited years ago.
The St. James is a trip back in time to the Wild West. The snacks are good too.

What a neat place! (And unexpected - in a tiny town and filled almost exclusively with boy scouts) My brother was sharing some of the history of the bar with me as we ate. (Look up! Don't miss out on the bullet holes in the ceiling!)
I got the bean and cheese burrito with an egg on top (How do I bring this trend to the east coast?!) and it was delicious - although we did pick a busy night and they seemed short-staffed.
We showed up at 5 PM thinking we'd be able to get a table for two, and we wound up waiting outside for 45 minutes. THEN, we were told our food would take an hour.

This is our second time to eat here, and it was just as delicious as I remember the last time, which was 2-3 years ago.
I had the burger with green chilis with sweet potato fries...yummy! The burger was plenty thick, juicy and cooked just right. My husband had the same and enjoyed his as well.
My son had the Bison burger, and finished mine, and while he enjoyed the Bison burger, he said he will get the regular burger next time, simply due to the leanness of the Bison, it was a little dry.
Shaylee was our waitress, she was very sweet and attentive.
They had a live band, the Gary West Band, they

Went there last Sunday for lunch & was disappointed that the food quality had changed. I ordered the exact same burger that I'd had a year ago & this one was nothing like the earlier one. This burger was over cooked, dry & for a fairly large meat patty, they skimped on the cheese. We also ordered wings as an appetizer & those too were over cooked & dry. Wife had fish & chips which were only ok. They do have decent sweet potato fries though & the atmosphere is awesome!

We stopped here on the way to Angel Fire to relax and get some food in our bellies. The classic burger was nice with the addition of green chilis. The wife had the smothered burrito with green chili sauce and beef. I had to snag a couple of bites myself and it was delish!! The burrito green chili sauce seemed to have a creaminess to it so it was unique from others that I have tried or made myself. The green chilis on the burger were fresh chopped and very nice as well. It is a must try!!

Great historical site, hotel has period rooms on display, and bar comes complete with bullet holes. That being said, the food is meh. I had flat iron steak, done as I ordered but a little tough. My wife had bison burger that was cooked about ten minutes past well done (she wasn't given an option how she wanted it). Bison is lean normally, and this was so overdone that it was dry, tough and tasteless. Desert was a shared strawberry rhubarb pie, which is something we don't see often in Texas. All in all an overpriced average meal.
