Our principal engineer comes from a family tradition of entrepreneurial activity, and cut his engineering teeth in the highly competitive world of manufacturing process equipment for the automotive and metals industries.
Coastal River Engineering, PLLC is a North Carolina based Professional Engineering firm aiming to serve the Coastal Carolina region centered in Brunswick County, NC and Horry County, SC. Depending upon size and type of project, we often expand our core disciplines in building, mechanical, and structural design to the full scope of engineering disciplines through Teaming Arrangements with other highly regarded firms.
Coastal River Engineering was founded in 2004 as Coastal River Technologies to support the development of novel recycling technology, embodied in our patent-pending "Eco-Shred" product line. Co-owner and founder, Jim Lewis, Jr., comes from an aggressively innovative background with dozens of patents on energy efficient material technologies.
We are a small team of home-office based professionals intending to deliver Cost Effective, "Good Enough" engineered plans geared to meet the needs of small businesses and budget-strapped plant operation and maintenance staff. We are not seeking awards, just an honest profit serving people like us who are trying to run a business.

After a bad experience with a competitor, Coastal River Engineering was recommended to us for the up fit of a 5000 ft warehouse for a dog kennel and daycare. Jim, Joshua and the rest were fast, knowledgeable and very easy to work with. They saved us thousands of dollars by providing more cost effective options to our original plans.

We have used Coastal River Engineering for all aspects of our project over the last year and have found the entire team to be one of the very best engineering firms in the NC/SC area. They are thoroughly knowledgeable of the state - country and municipal regulations and strive to achieve engineering solutions to achieve the clients goals in the most cost effective ways. I can not recommend this firm for your residential structural design needs. They are very expensive (sometimes as much as twice that of other Engineers) and their designs are very expensive to build. They do not demonstrate a strong commitment to finding the best design value for their clients. Even as a degree Mechanical Engineer, a retired Professional Engineer and 20-year Customer Service Professional, they refused to explore any suggested lower cost design alternative. I suggest that any home owner looking for a structural design engineer would do well to search out other firms in the Brunswick
