The Children's Nest staff will encourage each child to try out new ideas at their own stage of development. Services
The Children's Nest is open Monday through Friday all year (with the exception of 8 holidays) from 6:30 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. The Children's Nest provides a loving environment for all children, ranging in ages from 6 weeks to 12 years old! Our spacious 9000 square foot center has been newly renovated in 2020 and is located on 3 acres of land in the historic section of Blacksburg.
I am Kerri Edwards, the second owner/operator in the Children's Nest over 25 year history. My husband and I have 4 boys, Brayden, Cameron, Lane, and Marshall. All who have attended classes at the Children's Nest at some point, and three still do. I attended Virginia Tech on scholarship while playing Volleyball and earned my bachelor's degree in Human Services in 1999.
The Children's Nest provides a wholesome breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day. All of the food is made onsite by our professional cook. Lunch each day consists of a main course, a fruit, and a vegetable. Each meal is served with milk. We regularly customize children's diets to accommodate nut, milk, soy, and other allergies.
In the Chipmunk room, your baby, 4 weeks through 9 months, will be cared for according to his/her own schedule. Consistency in caregivers provides a secure environment for the children. Daily communication forms help both parents and caregivers make the transition from home to childcare as seamless as possible.
The Raccoon room serves toddlers 10-18 months and provides countless materials and activities to promote physical, emotional, and social development. As you can imagine, this is a busy room full of active exploration! Each toddler, 10 to 18 months, receives a daily communication sheet so that the parents know exactly what went on during the day.

We have had both of our children enrolled full time at the nest, and we cannot give high enough praise. Every single child who enters those doors is cared for as if they were their own kids. Teachers are kind and patient, but consistent and fair. There's no "undoing" of behaviors when our kids get home. All the children there are happy and inspired to learn. We hate that we are leaving town, but glad our spots can be filled with other children who will have the same wonderful experience!
