North Shore Animal Center
In the early 1930's, people traveled on dirt roads via horse & buggy, penicillin was not yet invented, old wooden crates were used to house pets, food scraps were collected from local restaurants to feed them, and boarding was only 25 cents a day. Dr. Fredericks continued his veterinary career for the next 60 years and became a well-respected "character" in the local community.

North Shore Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1931 on Vernon Valley Road in Northport, NY by Dr. Arthur Fredericks upon graduation from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. In the '30's, Dr. Fredericks spent his early years as a farm veterinarian for all types of animals.
Services
In 1969, his son Richard W. Fredericks joined the practice after also completing his Veterinary degree from Cornell University. Dr. Fredericks built one of the largest Large Animal Veterinary practices on Long Island while maintaining a strong small animal practice, and was one of the first to become licensed in using acupuncture techniques to aid western medicine.
My dog loved it here! Dr. Fredericks and staff were great with my Jack. When it was time for Jack to go to heaven, they were kind, compassionate, and caring. Although I no longer live on the north shore, when it is time to get a new fuzzy addition to our family, I will definately travel there for their services.
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting small needles at specific points of the body to balance the flow of energy and is sometimes used with a machine that creates electronic pulses to stimulate the areas in which the needles are inserted. This type of alternative medicine has been used in the veterinary field to treat arthritis, pain management, and the treatment of certain diseases.
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our expert Groomer, Nicole, offers full grooming services for all of our furry friends! Special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris, and that doggie (or kitty) pet odor - your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching.
Although humans and animals are different in many ways, some advances in human medicine are also very useful in veterinary patients. One of these advances, endoscopy, has proven to be a powerful diagnostic and therapeutic tool in veterinary medicine.

As a practice, we consider it a goal to offer state-of-the-art medicine and diagnostic testing; so we are proud to offer endoscopy as a means of providing a higher level of quality care to our patients.A fiberoptic endoscope is a long, narrow tube with a tiny camera at the tip. An endoscope can be rigid or very flexible, depending on what procedure it is used for.

Excellent care and compassionate. Adjusted meds and treatment saved Romeo last week. No appointment and they were very busy. Took him right in. Romeo is in advanced stages of congestive heart failure. I am not in denial of the situation but the time they have given him and us is invaluable. Romeo has spent this past week getting stronger and stronger and he’s almost back to his old normal self. Can not thank them enough.

The whole team at North Veterinary Hospital helped me with my cat Lucky. My 13 year old little girl got so sick before Christmas. They gave me medication and a ton of different ways to keep her comfortable so we could have a little longer. I was always calling with my crazy mom questions and they always helped. When it was time to let her go to heaven, the whole staff help me. What ever I needed to be comfortable and make peace with my decision they accommodated me. One of the most difficult days of my life, and they made it easier for me. Thank you all for your help ❤️❤️
