Since 1932 we have been Hondo's Downtown Hometown Restaurant. Centrally located right in the middle of Downtown Hondo we are right across the street from City Hall, US Post Office, and the Medina County Courthouse. We are known for serving some of the best tasting Mexican and Tex-Mex Food in South Texas.

If you are looking for your typical large chain restaurant or freeway "fast food" restaurant, we may not have what you are looking for. There is only one Azteca Restaurant in these parts, making for a unique dining experience for you and your family. Next time you are traveling down U.S. Highway 90 between San Antonio and Del Rio, stop in and step back in time with us!
Services
Arturo & Alicia Dominguez (pictured here) spent about five years rebuilding the original Azteca Cafe building and resurrected it as El Restaurante Azteca in 1992. Arturo & Alicia enjoyed tremendous success and they later expanded the original restaurant and added two parking lots. Since 2001, Tuddy & Lissy Dominguez have owned and operated the business known as El Restaurante Azteca.
While El Restaurante Azteca specializes in Tex-Mex Food, we offer one of the most diverse menus in Medina County. From Chicken Fried Steaks to Hamburger Steaks to Salads to a variety of Shrimp dishes, we have you covered. We've also even been known to make one of the best tasting Hamburgers in these parts!
Our Email Club members can take advantage of our Azteca Email Punch Club. Obtain the card during one of your dining visits with us. Get 10 punches (one per dining visit) and reach into our "Azteca Cookie Jar" full of great meal offers and discounts including free meals! On Tuesdays we're rolling back our music system to 1950's oldies but goodies and even better, we're rolling back the prices on our Famous Enchilada Plates.

Basic cafe diner style of Tex mex fare. The waitress could have applied herself a bit more. They gave my wife a can of coke without a cup of ice with it. The waitress never once asked me if i wanted a re fill. We are from out of town and I definitely got the vibe that everyone else in the restaurant were locals. Oh well , at least we tried it.

First time at this place, the service was horrible. Waitresses need to be more attentive to the customers. We had to ask for everything "No common sense" then they had that look, as if you are asking for so much! The food was tasty but pricey for the plate of shrimp I got! Quality of food and amount was poor for the price. Owner: please talk to your waitresses the food is not given to us for free, CUSTOMERS pay for the food! Thank you!

Delicious meal; friendly, efficient service; reasonable price; generous servings. The chili relleno was unique and wonderful. Rice, whole beans, and guacamole were really tasty. So glad we went.

I was there w/ my family members for a Memorial after visiting the grave sight we all decided to go to El Azteca. They have great food and they accommodated our big group of 12 or more. I highly recommend this place. Our servers were 👍 excellent.

Got the street tacos which are not well described on the menu but have fajita meat inside. They were quite good. Their hot sauce appears to be made with canned tomatoes sauce and would be better made with fresh or roasted chopped canned tomatoes. Chips were excellent.

The website's choice of comparable restaurants it was not accurate.. The food here is not authentic. The sauce tastes like it's from a can and seasonings are practically non existent. It is clean and the staff is competent.
