Incorporating the principles of toxicology into the chemistry curriculum prepares the next generation of chemists to evaluate the hazards associated with the substances they use as part of their craft and provides the requisite tools to design safer, healthier and sustainable products.

The Sustainability and Green Energy (SAGE) Across the Curriculum program at Bristol Community College was created to answer the growing demand for young technicians and engineers that can lead our nation and world into sustainable patterns of energy use and construction that will be more efficient, cleaner, and drawn from sources that are abundant and renewable.

Sustainability "identifies a concept and attitude in development that looks at a site's natural land, water, and energy resources as integral aspects of the development." In order to meet the goals of sustainability initiatives for future generations, it is imperative we educate today's youth, so they are ready and willing to meet the challenges they will face.

Bristol Community College maintains a lending lab of engineering and sustainability teaching equipment and labs that can be loaned to partner schools on an as-needed basis, allowing K-12 educators free access to resources that are not available in their own school systems. In addition, BCC provides semi-annual workshops demonstrating the equipment available More information on each piece of equipment can be found below.
In this workshop we learned about the basics of solar. This included site analysis and feasibility for homeowners to make sure the initial cost was worth the investment. As well as what is going on in the solar industry in the market and how financing would work. Towards the end of the week we had a fun hands on experience installing four solar panels onto mock roofs built by one of our local high schools.
