Victoria Counseling Services is an Outpatient Adult Psychiatry practice located in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The practice was established in 2015 following the sudden death of a beloved younger sister, Victoria, a victim of a traumatic event that led to her suffering from severe depression and PTSD for most of her adult years.

As an Acute/Critical Care Nurse Practitioner, I was not cognizant of the impact of mental illness on family and society until I decided to pursue a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Degree. Psychiatric illness should be treated as a medical illness with no stigma, no blame or shame.

If I could give zero stars I would. I did not even have my first appointment with her and already had a horrible experience. I was asked to set up a patient portal to have a online appointment but I did not receive a verification code so I could not set up the account. I emailed her about this problem to which she sent me my phone number and email that I gave her and told me they were wrong because if they were right I would get a notification . Than when I said they were correct but still not working she told me “No” because it had worked for other patients. Mind you she called my phone number

I went here for a few months and decided to stop when I realized I was getting anxiety just seeing my OWN psychiatrist. She pushes you to do things even if you tell her your circumstances wouldn’t allow it. She yells at you if you say something the wrong way. And she talks very rudely about other patients. I laughed once (that’s what I do when I’m nervous) and she yelled at me for “not taking her seriously”. Actual yelling! She takes phone calls during your visit and she talks so much you can’t even get a word in. I would not recommend at all.

I went to a few sessions and wanted to have a good experience, but there were too many red flags. The biggest was related to medication. She prescribed medication for anxiety and insomnia at the first visit, then at the next visit she told me I was taking them wrong. I showed her the handwritten note she had given me with her directions on it. She didn't remember writing it. As it turned out, she had over-prescribed the sedatives!!
I saw that she has many great reviews, so I hope this was just a fluke. I saw her as she was starting her practice, perhaps I would have abetter experience now.

I wrote a bad review for her several months ago and I got an email from her saying the following:
"As per the advice of Victoria Counseling Services legal counsel, you are given 24 hours to remove this defamatory and libel comments or get legal representation."
I replied and told her that I was using my first amendment and that I did not fabricate anything in my review. never got a reply. But be warned everyone, this is the type of person she is. Threaten and intimidates people she disagrees with. Proceed with caution.

Two positives: - found me the right medication for my bipolar disorder, which maybe was even lucky based on the rest of my experience, - her room was a comfortable set up.
Several negatives: - never on time, - I felt like the counseling appointment was 60% her talking, and about things like her hair for like 5 minutes which is so unnecessary, - would not hear me out when she had her own narrow-minded belief, so I gradually said less and less - I cried once because she kept talking over me and when I finally was able to talk she realized she was being rude and inconsiderate - was difficult to reach

Josephine is one of the kindest, most genuine individual's I've ever met with. You can tell that she truly cares about each of her patients and wants the absolute best for them. She "knows her stuff" and I have full confidence in whatever recommendations she makes for me (be it medication changes or coping skills).
What has not been mentioned in the reviews is Josephine's personality. She is ALWAYS smiling and her laugh is contagious. I've yet to leave a session without cracking a smile and letting a laugh out. She is not your conventional, albeit dry personality, that is often present in the

Josephine is the best psychiatrist / counselor I have ever had. She cares deeply about her patients despite what other reviews may say. I can call her anytime and I know she will pick up or call me right back. I don't feel like she is just doing her job. She feels more like a friend than my doctor. I have been seeing her for almost a year now and I don't know what I would do if I couldn't see her anymore. She tells the truth even if its something you might not want to hear so I think that's where the bad reviews come from.

Psychiatrist claimed it took three weeks to send a copy of the notes we took to my primary care doctor. This is obviously not true - she just procrastinated. Psychiatrist also made me feel very rushed and uncared for. Rarely started appointments on time, and always ended too early. Doctor didn't really listen to what I had to say, instead prescribed me drugs the same day I had my first appointment. Frequently took outside phone calls during our meetings. Also talked about other patients in front of me. Overall seems very uncaring. She took me off of her drugs without any warning when I complained

Very unprofessional—-Josephine will berate you & treat you like a child if she doesn’t like something you said. She also talks so much, the patient can’t get a word in edgewise. I finally had to walk out of my last appointment to get away from her. Doesn’t know how to treat patients who are in a delicate emotional state.
