I'm a wife and mom to 3 precious beach kids and I am happiest when my toes are in the sand! I love beach combing and playing in the sand and ocean with our kids. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and I always dreamed of living on the Outer Banks. I studied photojournalism at WVU and I was blessed to have made my Outer Banks dreams a reality in 2010.
I love capturing the unique stories of families while they vacation in this special place! I studied photography at JMU. After graduation I worked in a Richmond studio for several years before moving back to the Outer Banks. Family is the most important thing to me. I feel so blessed to have this life surrounded by my family, making a career capturing the love that other families share.

We never charge extra for more people in your session. You can bring Aunt Sally, your next door neighbor and all of your friends if you'd like! Your sitting time is yours to use how you wish and we are here to help create the best use of your time! This package provides a discount (applied in price) for the digital images by paying for them upfront.

From the beginning Katie worked with us to schedule a time that worked for 21 month old as well as other family members' needs. I was making the appointment from the wilds of Maine with only sporadic phone service, but she persevered through several dropped phone calls and we made our appointment. Then it rained on our big day. Immediately she rescheduled us for the next day. And finally, we gathered together for the big shoot. In 30 minutes she took all the various family groupings and was even able to elicit smiles from the 12 yo and the 21 month old - at the same time. Not an easy task. She

We cannot day enough good things about Katie at 12th Street Portraits. A beach photo shoot is part of our family tradition during our annual visit to the Outerbanks. Katie has photographed our family for the last five years, groups as small as five and as big as 25. Katie’s laid back and fun demeanor encourages candid and relaxed pictures. She is very experienced as demonstrated by her use of light and setting. We have always been happy with the pictures and professionalism of 12th Street portraits.

Our family took beach photos this summer with photographer Katie Foster of 12th Street Portraits. We had twelve people total in the pictures, with several sub-groups. Katie was cheerful and patient throughout our shoot and happy to work with us to get all of the poses we wanted. She also instinctively figured out ways to help our autistic nephew participate in the photo shoot in a way that made him comfortable. I will give 2 stars because it was nice to be with my entire family. Unfortunately I was harassed once I stated my opinion to the photographer and said I was not impressed with our family photo. Never once did I raise my voice, use profanity, nothing! I simply stated I was not impressed. She accused me of being rude. I explained I was sorry, but I was entitled to my opinion. And explained that is why I did not purchase the family photo. She continued on and on about my rudeness. I really have no respect for a business run like that! If I treated people like that I am sure I would no longer have

We hired 12th Street Portraits to photograph our wedding back in September 2013. They were fantastic! Katie was our photographer, and she really did a great job. She was able to see that the sun was an issue (we got married at 3:30pm on the beach), so she had little tricks so that I wasn't making a squinty face in all of my pictures. We also ran into the issue of beach goers in the background, since we got married on a public beach in Nags Head. We had 12th street portraits do our engagement photos and I have to say, WOW!! They knew exactly the poses to use to make us look amazing, and they made us laugh the entire time. A photo shoot can cause a lot of anxiety (especially for me) and they knew how to loosen us up and keep us comfortable. I'd definitely recommend 12th street for anyone!

We booked our session and indicated we wanted to do both family portraits and senior portraits for our daughter. Our rental house gave us a 30 minute photo session for free, but we paid $200 to extend it to 2 hours total in order to get all the shots we would need. I spoke with Katie multiple times prior to our session to discuss thoughts and ideas. She recommended different wardrobes and locations for our daughter's senior pictures. Even with the 2 hours we had booked, there definitely wouldn't have been enough time for changing or switching locations. I had high hopes and loved so many

We had our family portraits taken with both Audra and Katie while on Christmas vacation last year. Usually the family pictures can be a pain, especially with the short attention span of the babies/younger kids....not only were they able to make it a pretty fun experience, the kids loved the girls! They had a blast and we ended up with a ton of great pictures...pictures are worth a thousand words right - we couldn't put a price tag on this session and experience...we loved the girls and they treated us like family. Would highly recommend and will be back during our next OBX vacation.
