Our family funeral home started back in 1896, and today the third, fourth and fifth generations work together at our location in Van. Family means a lot to us and having an all-family staff gives us an advantage in many ways. Hilliard Funeral Home was established over 100 years ago. In 1896, George McIntosh Hilliard moved to Canton and opened a mercantile business with a funeral parlor in the back. The store sold hardware and cloth supplies to make caskets, which people would purchase in order to build a final resting container for their beloved.
Losing someone you love is always a very traumatic experience. It can seriously impact one's judgment, therefore, it is important to be realistic about funeral expenditures. We do not want your choices to be more than what is affordable to you, and we will do everything we can to help you keep the arrangements within your budget.
This type of funeral, often referred to by funeral providers as a "traditional" funeral, usually includes a viewing or visitation and formal funeral service, use of a hearse to transport the body to the funeral site and cemetery, and burial, entombment or cremation of the remains. It is generally the most expensive type of funeral.
With cremation services, we at Hilliard Funeral Home believe you should be able to choose the type of service that you find most meaningful. That's why our list of services includes many options. Contrary to what most people believe, cremation does not limit one's choices, nor does the choice of cremation necessarily eliminate a funeral service.
Preplanning is a sincere act of love. It relieves the burden of making arrangements at a most difficult time, enabling family and friends to better support each other's sorrow. The Hilliard family and staff were incredibly compassionate. They took awesome care of my entire family. They treated my deceased father with the utmost respect, as they would have if he was their own. The coordination of the service and burial could not have been better. I would proudly recommend The Hilliard Funeral Home.

Sharon and philus hillaird did a horriable job with us. I wouldnt recommend this place to any one. They where not empethictic cause they where good old buddies with the other parent in this situation. So every time we called to get information these two wouldnt give us the run around . Wouldnt let us pay for nothing and made sure to call the ovando/ duckworth family every time they got off the phone with us. We even asked to speak to the director and we where told it wouldnt be necessary. Like petty little high school girls. Because of it ovando and duckworth where verbally abusive to us and now

The ladies at the funeral home were absolutely awesome and very compassionate to my family. They were even able to expedite The Cremation process due to family living out of town and not being able afford to stay in town for the extra week that was told how long it would take. I would give them a hundred Stars if the option was available. They never once tried to force a sale or encourage me to buy anything extra. They were straight forward with the price of a simple cremation and death certificates. My mother died in her home and another funeral home had picked her up. Their price for simple cremation
