Services
Dr. Timothy P. Cheney at the King City Veterinary Hopspital has been providing compassionate medical care for your pets for over 30 years. We are a full service small animal hospital located in South Monterey County. We at the King City Veterinary Hospital offer nothing less than high quality medical care.
Dr. Cheney graduated from Kansas State University in 1967. After serving in the United States Air Force and working in several other veterinary hospitals, he co-established the King City Veterinary Hospital in 1976. Dr. Cheney enjoys continuing education, traveling with his wife Phoebe, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and dog, Sandy.
At King City Veterinary Hospital in King City, CA, we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body's organs. In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pets' body that we otherwise could not see.
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any pet. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.
Here at King City Veterinary Hospital, we truly believe in the importance of preventative care, especially vaccines. Vaccinations are made to protect our pets from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) diseases. Why wouldn't you want to give your pets all the protection they need? Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease.

February dental cleaning for canine 15 0/0 off. Very reasonable prices. You don't have to be one of there patient. I dropped off my little 6 lb. Yorkie 9 years old and has never had a dental cleaning appt. He's been sneezing for four months on and off. 3 Dr appt all saying he needs a dental cleaning, that might take care of the sneezing. They were looking for a foxtail or saying it's a cold. Unfortunately he had 6 teeth pulled today. Saying he had an abscess in a cainine tooth. I'm hoping he will get better soon. He came home with more antibiotics and a inflammatory medication. He's been taking

I love the doctor but man the staff has really gone down hill. So rude, the mother & daughter who work there think they own the place & treat clients with such disrespect. My dog is sick & their rudeness was really unappreciated. The vet really needs to fire these ladies they're not good for business.

Well as I write this I'm still shook up and in tears. I have been a client for 25 years. Today I was disrespected, shamed and humiliated by one of the staff members who works in accounting. Many years ago I wrote a check that bounced. The bill was paid but apparently I'm still in the system as "cash only". Today Dr. Cheney treated my cat (as he has treated all my cats over the course of two decades) but realizing I did not have my debit card with me because I had switched wallets and I think my son was using it today anyway, I wrote a check. I was told the status which

Dr. Cheney takes the time to answer and explain any questions we have about our pets health. He's comfortable with caring for our dogs, which makes Lucy and Rick more comfortable. The staff is professional and experienced with handling our very large breed dogs. Dr. Cheney and staff have been caring for Rick and Lucy for over 5-6 years, just about their whole lives. Dr. Cheney and Staff, we truly appreciate you and are very fortunate to have you located in King City.

We had been going here since we moved to the area back in 2018. The staff has always been friendly and straightforward. My dog was quoted with 2 weeks to live but made it an additional 6 months. When the time came to say goodbye the doctor came out to our home so she could be in a comforting setting during her final hours. They were patient and respectful, giving us time to say our goodbyes. We are grateful for their help during a hard time.

Clean, organized, and friendly was my impression, as well as generous.
Dr. Cheney, an Air Force veteran, checked my dogs foot thoroughly, which was hurt prior. The foot did not appear to be broken and the chance of a fracture was minimal. The dog was not in discomfort.
Dr. Cheney offered to do a more extensive examination, including x-rays, if I really wanted to, but did not push for it.
Result : OK dog and no charge!

The King City Veterinarian Hospital has been indispensable to me, and my pets, throughout the years. Dr. Cheney had cared for one of my pets from cradle to the grave (16 years). He, and his staff, are caring and transparent about procedures and cost. I am very grateful we have such an accommodating vet in our remote area.

Read some reviews and was shocked. I have always in the last 20 yrs been happy with Dr. Chaney and his staff, at times they are booked, just like our dr. But he has opened his off more than once after hrs to take care of my animals, just the other day my cat was near death, he came back to work and keep her over night , if it wasnt for him and his staff she would of been dead , they are all very caring and have always been wonderful, i couldnt ask for a better place to take my animals. Thank you King City Vet. for all your help Christine

Thank you to the genius Vet, who insisted my dog (who we had for 12 years) get a hair cut and went into cardiac arrest. This Vet was told to stop several times and actually had assistance holding my dog down, so he could get his "assessment." Thank you, we are traumatized for life. Good job with listening to the customer. Thank you again for causing an unnecessary heart ache.

ONLY GIVING ONE CAUSE I CANT GIVE A ZERO!!!! New to the area and needed to have a walk in for my dog. I called two different times and got two totally different stories. Once I bring my dog in the nurse AnneMarie comes out gives me the up and down and starts being short with me rude,
Not to mention cutting me off while I'm trying to explain the situation. And the cherry on top of this awful experience was that Annemarie kept saying that they were "booked up" but the lobby was a ghost roam and there was no noise for a booked vet. 10/10 would NOT RECOMMEND!!

I must say I was a little skeptical at first because of the reviews, but it was the closest vet to home so I gave it a try! I recently got a puppy so I called and asked if they offer a puppy package which they did they let me know what was included in the puppy package and for a great price! The place could use a little upgrading lol but other than that the staff was very friendly and they all loved my puppy and the doctor was engaging and funny! They answered all my questions and they even gave me a little chew toy for my dog to take home!

I bring my dogs here for their rabies vaccines. They have a rabies shot clinic from 12 to 1 pm a couple days of the week. The clinic is on a walk in basis and a rabies shot is only $12. This is not a yearly shot. This is a 3 yr rabies shot. $12 every 3 yrs-- cant beat that deal! Because they offer a clinic several times a month, the wait is very short. In addition, the staff are all very polite, courteous, and very efficient. The clinic is clean and appealing. I highly recommend this clinic to everyone. My dogs and I will continue coming here. Thank you for taking great care of my boys.

This Veterinary Hospital KILLED my little dog.
Incompetent staff, especially the Dental Vet Technician and staff in general. My little dog was gasping for breath when given to me.
Upon obvious observation on the part of Hospital staff they should never have ok'd the release of my little dog until symptoms subsided. They stated in their office that it was the result of the anesthesia and not to worry.
I called the hospital several times afterward...because he was getting worse and having difficulty breathing. On my way home my little dog died in my arms in my car. A horrible, horrible

I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Cheney for the past 20 years or so. I disagree with the reviewer that Dr. Cheney and his staff are not compassionate. There have been times when we weren't completely satisfied with the care or friendliness of the staff, but over-all it's been a positive experience. The chief complaint we have is that the pedicure days could be expanded or improved upon. It's an absolute chaotic situation on those days. That is the only reason I have rated this 4 stars and not 5.

ONLY PUTTING 1 STAR BECAUSE I HAVE NO CHOICE, I WILL NEVER TAKE MY ANIMALS HERE AGAIN! This doctor and his staff are terrible and have no compassion or love for animals whatsoever. As a last resort, we called, because our dog had been mauled by another dog so we called them (because they were close) and they said "the doctor isn't taking emergencies today" and actually hung up on me! This was during the week and within business hours. His reception staff are just as callous and uncaring as he is. Who wants their beloved animals to be in a place like that? ? This was the final straw
