Orthodontic care can be short and relatively painless or a long process, so you'll want to make sure you are choosing the right doctor for your needs.
No, it is not. Many of our patients are referred by their family dentist, yet many other patients take the initiative to schedule an examination themselves. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening at age 7. By this age, several permanent teeth in most children have erupted, allowing us to effectively evaluate your orthodontic condition.
Surgical orthodontics is the combination of traditional orthodontics with jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) to correct jaw irregularities, align severe malocclusions, or improve facial appearance. First orthodontics straightens your teeth, then orthognathic surgery straightens your jaws. Surgical orthodontics is recommended for non-growing adult patients with severe malocclusions that cannot be corrected with orthodontics alone.
Anything your orthodontist attaches to your teeth which moves your teeth or changes the shape of your jaw. The metal wire that acts as a track to guide your teeth along as they move. It is changed periodically throughout treatment as your teeth move to their new positions. A metal or ceramic part cemented ("bonded") to your tooth that holds your archwire in place.
Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance system used to inconspicuously treat crooked and crowded teeth in adults and teens. This modern take on braces features a system of clear aligner trays that are worn at all times except when eating, brushing, or flossing. Patients receive a sequence of custom fit trays, each of which is slightly different than the one before.

All three of our daughters went to Dr. Wenger for orthodontics. All three had different needs and were treated with the utmost care through the whole process. We would recommend Dr. Ryan and his staff to all! Dr. Ryan worked with us extensively to find the perfect solution for my die hard trumpet player and WG marching band member. We’ve had such a great experience with Dr. Wenger with my 9 yr old daughter! She has a lot of dental anxiety due to having had several teeth removed by the dentist, so she was super apprehensive about orthodontic work. He has been patient and kind and explains everything they are doing. His staff has been supportive and attentive and does their best to calm her worries. I look forward to working with them for the next several years with my two other children and myself!
