Solideo Design Studio
A world where "what is" is easily replaced with "what could be", where the interior mingles generously with the exterior, where light & air rule the day while cozy is persuaded to play nicely with spacious. We are as interested in the people and lifestyles that our designs shelter as the structures themselves.

We believe that your space should adapt to your life, not the other way around. Home-Place-Making is our passion. It's what we do. Our job is to take your dreams of home and create them, better than you ever thought possible.

These clients came to me knowing exactly what they wanted. And they were willing to work for it. They bought a large piece of land - so far out in the country the last several dirt roads were unmarked, and unknown to the GPS. As a family of four, they proceeded to clear the land themselves, renting equipment as they needed it, learning as they went.
Like magic, this beautiful couple found each other later in life. They found a 50+ acre piece of land, and decided to celebrate the start of a new life with a custom home that would be comfortable for just the two of them, but also open welcoming arms to a small army of adult children and grandchildren on a regular basis.
The Owners of this Passive Solar Home were passionate about building for others with Habitat for Humanity, & wanted to actively participate in the construction of their own house as well. Green Building technologies, passive solar design, & plenty of sweat equity have completed this Chapel Hill Home.
This home perched beside a lovely lake, & yet despite it's best intentions didn't allow it's owners quite enough connection with that lovely shimmery body of water. In addition, the house itself was curiously linear, with no movement either to the front or the back. We remedied both situations by adding a lovely sitting porch towards the front to mark the entrance, & a simple but grand covered outdoor room towards the back & adjacent to the lake.
Travel between the main level & the lower level was discouraged by a scary code-defying utility staircase planted right in the middle of the living space. The vibrant young family living here wanted connection of the interior spaces, access to the back yard, & above all, more light & air in their lives.
