You will learn discipline, focus, and gain an improved level of fitness. You will learn kung fu forms that have been passed down through generations as part of a rich tradition of Chinese martial arts. In my life, every accomplishment I have made, every barrier I have overcome, every victory I have ever enjoyed came about through an application of HARD WORK over TIME. That is the greatest lesson Kung Fu has taught me. Kung Fu (gongfu) does not mean Martial Art or fighting. It is a philosophy. It is my mission statement.
Just like the monks at Shaolin temple ages ago, the Shaolin-Do student starts with a solid fitness, strength, and flexibility education. Quicker than you might think possible, the student progresses into a challenging and exciting course of study that includes open hand forms, weapons training, and meditation.
The Kids' Curriculum is generally intended for kids between the ages of five to seven years old. Students follow the Kids' Curriculum until they complete the Junior Yellow Belt (Yellow Belt with Five Stripes), at which point we will likely suggest that the student move to the Youth Curriculum. Each stripe requires learning and testing on two Short Katas.
Tai Chi is one of the four internal systems of Shaolin-Do kung fu. As a student, you'll begin your Tai Chi education with basic stepping and turning practice incorporating a relaxed and grounded posture. Mindful practice of Tai Chi will result in many health benefits, including reduced stress levels, increased energy, and improved balance.
The practical (and personal) benefits of Kung Fu are not limited to adult students; kids of all ages have been shown to benefit greatly from the study of martial arts. These benefits are not only from the physical exercise that is integral to Kung Fu - there are as many benefits of meditation and mindfulness for children and teenagers as there are for adults!

I look forward to Tai Chi every week. It’s enjoyable, energizing and relaxing all at once. The people are wonderful and make the class a great experience. I think I’m currently the oldest person in the class (by quite a few years) but I feel welcome and not terribly embarrassed when I have difficulty with something. I love Fingerlakes Shaolin-Do and Tai Chi! And I hope some other “older” women will join. Thank you Sifu Symphony for many wonderful classes!

I’ve been a student here for just over two years, when a friend finally convinced me to come to one class, and it’s been amazing. The school is a really welcoming and supportive place, unlike other martial arts schools I’ve experienced. The instructors are incredibly patient and push you to your limits and beyond while making sure that everyone is using correct form to avoid injury. Kung Fu classes have a good mix of solid workouts and conditioning, empty hand and weapons forms, self defense techniques, and sparring, (these last two with attention to partner safety). The Tai Chi classes are
