The O'Neil is the latest business opening as part of the renewal downtown Kinston, North Carolina. Built inside a 90 year old bank building, The O'Neil is Lenoir County's most iconic hotel. Still containing the vault and the 16 ton metal door, our lobby reminds you of the rich history in this repurposed building.
In the heart of Kinston's former Banker's Corner, The O'Neil is a portrait of tradition in eastern North Carolina. Its' story mirrors Kinston's historic rise, and current rebirth, as a hub of commerce and culture in our great state. Based on the Renaissance Revival style that was popular in the early 1900s, The O'Neil building, originally a Farmers & Merchants Bank, was designed by the architectural firm Benton & Benton of Wilson, NC.
Kinston, North Carolina has had a long and storied past. Now Kinston is undergoing a modern day renaissance. There are historical sites all over town, reminding you over the more than 250 years of history in the area. Down the street from The O'Neil you can visit the CSS Neuse, a replica of the Civil War era steam-powered ironclad ship of the same name.
The O'Neil has seven rooms that were repurposed out of the offices of the original Kinston Farmers & Merchants Bank. You'll find that each room has its own unique feel. All furnishings were hand-picked by The O'Neil's owner with an eye for comfort, elegance, and charm. Sink into our plush mattresses for a restful night's sleep.

The O'Neil is an incredible hotel - phenomenal renovation of a historic property, beautiful art, professional staff, and luxury rooms. The hotel is even more impressive than the pictures on the website.
The Chef and the Farmer restaurant is less than a block away, so choose this fantastic hotel if your visit to Kinston includes dining at that restaurant.
The O'Neil is a must for your visit to Kinston.

Loved this place, it is beautiful and comfortable. Christopher went above and beyond for us, we arrived at 3 am and he waited up for us, gave us a tour and then went out and got us ice, he could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Our room had a vault with bunk beds, my sister-in-law and myself slept in the bunk beds, very cozy. I highly recommend this place if you are staying in Kinston.

Great hotel with a lot of history and charm. The staff couldn't have been better and they made you feel like a special part of the family that had come to visit. The added bonus is they are just across the street from the Chef and the Farmers Table. Anytime we are in the area we are staying here again.

I debated if I was going to leave this review. I should because it’s worth sharing my experience. I chose this hotel because my last name is O’Neal. It was part of my experience. I arrived promptly for my check in and I was not greeted. No big deal (1st red flag). I gave the lady my name and she was a little confused. I proceeded to show her my reservation number. She advised me of the price; however, I was aware when I made the reservation. She asked me would I like to proceed. At this point, I felt it was necessary for my to be cynical because of her tone! I replied, yes I’m here right

Great staff, fun quirky lobby, big rooms. The drinks and snacks in the old bank vault are a nice touch. I would definitely stay here again. It’s literally across the street from Chef and the Farmer and a two minute walk from Mother Earth brewery. For history nerds like me, the CSS Neuse museum is also an easy three-minute walk. Ideal for a weekend retreat.
If the management read these reviews, I do have some thoughts that could make the experience even better...
First, the bed. My bed was REALLY high and very, very soft. Not just soft, but kinda saggy in the middle (2c). Might want to check

What a wonderful hotel! My wife and I stayed there this past weekend while visiting Kinston to eat at the Chef and Farmer (and Boiler Room) and to visit Mother Earth brewery. While those places were wonderful, we cannot stop talking about The O'Neil. The space is beautiful. We loved our room and the amenities (which everyone else has talked about) are incredible. A wonderful place to stay. I cannot recommend it enough.

The O'Neil was built around 1920's as a bank and has since been renovated to be an upper class hotel. Owned and operated by Stephen Hill, which has also opened Mother Earth Brewing, to help the local community boom again. I would say Stephen and his team have succeeded in inspiring others to open local businesses in the area. There are various shops and restaurants to check out during your stay. While your here take the tour at Mother Earth and try all the different rich flavors of beer and spirits.

Very cool hotel in old bank building. Our room was unique and very nice. The vault contained complimentary beer from local Mother Earth brewery, water bottles, and a nice selection of coffees for the Keurig. The decor was intriguing throughout. We chose it so that we could walk to Chef and the Farmer and The Boiler Room. Stay here and then go to the Boiler Room for drinks and seafood. So great!

We stayed here primarily because it was close to the restaurant we'd come to Kinston to try, but also because it was a bit different - a 7 or 8 room boutique hotel, where the owner and his family occupy several floors of the building - and it used to be a bank, with a vault and all that jazz!
The place is a bit off the center grid, nobody up front after 9 PM, you do get a secret number to call if there's an invasion, or the toilet backs up, or the Neuse crests at historical levels, or heaven forbid, the internet goes down!. You have another super secret code to enter through the side

I am writing this review because of the amazing customer service I received! My parents have been dying to come here so I decided to get them a night as a Christmas gift. I tried to book through Orbitz and hit a snag so I booked directly through them. I wanted to pay everything up front so I sent a note to them through their website. Not even an hour later I heard back from the manager Stephanie, saying no problem just call the hotel. I talked to Zack who said a notation had already been made and he would go ahead and take care of everything. He was so nice! Then two days later Stephanie

We're living in the age of Airbnb, so the rules have changed. Hotels seeking excellence must do everything they once did, but now, also offer a personal touch--a blend of homespun ease and obsessive attention to detail. Few manage this, or even try. The O'Neil does it all, and makes it seem effortless.
The building is exceptioinally well-renovated, retaining every bit of its century-old charm while appointing the rooms with the comfiest beds, linens, and old-but-in-perfect-shape furnishings. There's the down-to-earth staff getting you situated, and a key code providing entry

If you are in town to check out the burgeoning downtown Kinston scene, the O'Neil is the place to stay! I've never had a hotel experience like this. From the complimentary beverages (including beer!) in the bank vault to the gilded gold textured ceiling to the funky hotel rooms, this place is truly one of a kind. The O'Neil is a little on the expensive side but it's well worth it to be staying in downtown Kinston and get to walk to the various restaurants, bars, shops and brewery close by. We even hit the farmer's market (open on Saturday am) which was less than a

You must, must, must stay here! This 7 room boutique hotel has been renovated with love (the owner occupies the 4th & 5th floors and is a major force in the revitalization of the local art, culture and history scene exploding in Kinston). Guest rooms occupy the 2nd & 3rd floors and appear to have been administrative offices in a prior life. My party spent an hour in the lobby and balcony taking the space in; the gold leaf ceiling, the 8 ton vault door, original artwork and the re-purposed teller windows come sitting area. No expense seems to have been spared; over sized showers, floor

This place is great! We stayed here passing though on our way to a conference. Mostly we just wanted to eat at the Chef and The Farmer and thought this place looked more fun than staying at the Hampton. That turned out to be a great idea. The setting in a bank is fun and they have done an outstanding job renovating it into a hotel. You can tell a lot of money went into this place to make it nice. This is not just the case of someone saying, "wouldn't it be cool to put a hotel in an old bank." They have done this right. The rooms are great and the bathrooms and showers are
