Macatawa Area Express
Federal Transit Administration extends the face mask mandate for all transportation networks. According to American Public Transit Assoc. Reports, public transportation is on the rise. Since becoming an authority in 2006, MAX Transit has provided over 5,000,000 rides to the Holland and Zeeland area communities!
Services
The Macatawa Area Express (MAX) is a small urban transit system that has operated fixed bus routes and demand response service since 2000. If a customer would like to request an accommodation or reasonable modification, please contact our ADA Coordinator at 616-928-2479.

Board meetings are held at 3:30 p.m. the forth Monday of the month at MAX's administrative office and main transfer center at the Padnos Center, 171 Lincoln Ave. in downtown Holland.Constructed in 2013, MAX's Operations Center is located at 11660 Greenway Drive in Holland Township. MAX is funded primarily with federal and state funding, as well as a dedicated transit millage of 0.4 mills.
MAX offers paratransit service with advance reservations for eligible passengers. Only ADA cardholders, people 70 years or older, and those whose origins and/or destinations that are farther than mile from a bus stop are eligible to reserve rides. Individuals with disabilities receive first priority.
MAX has Temporarily Suspended Fixed Route Service. MAX Transit operates both an hourly fixed bus route along with a reserve ride service. Each service has unique fares for qualifying individuals. If you have any questions on pricing, please contact our Customer Service team at (616)355-1010. To qualify for ADA priority service and reduced fares, passengers must undergo a free application process provided by MAX to determine eligibility.
We want to make riding the bus a good experience for all passengers, and so we ask that everyone abide by these courtesy rules. Failure to abide by these rules may result in your being asked to deboard and possible denial of future service. 1. Exact bus fare is needed as drivers cannot make change, and refunds for over payment will not be made.
To learn more about scheduling rides on Reserve-a-MAX, Training Classes or bus passes, feel free to contact our Customer Service Representatives for more information. Great way to get around Holland for free! Nice clean busses and main terminal! Drivers are usually pretty nice but some need to check their selves some days cuz they are just plain rude! Not our fault their short on drivers! Over all very good system!

Critical: Quality
Every bus driver hits their brakes last second for any stop. If you get motion sickness, you're better off finding an alternative

As of now, July 7th, the buses are free to ride. Makes up for the fact it is very hard to get a taxi or uber before noon in Holland.

The driver from route 5 this morning was friendly because he's not rude than the other driver that drives route 5 on Tuesday afternoons. Okay service but hated waiting in the cold during winter to wait.

I don't use the MAX busses on a regular basis, but I do use them from time to time. Coming from Chicago I'm not thrilled with the Holland bus system, but realistically they do the best they can for a small town with limited public interest in using public transportation.

Over the last 5 years or so MAX has certainly improved by adding more fixed bus routes and I thank them for that. My only gripe would be that a couple of times the drivers have seemed very insistent that nobody could be standing while the bus is moving. I understand they don't want anybody to get hurt during
