Sage Cottage Preschool provides infant care and preschool classes for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. We are small non-profit facility of 40 children and 12 staff in a home-like setting, located in White Rock, just outside of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Services
June Warren founded Sage School in 1967. A Montessori class was conducted for the first time at Sage School in 1971 with an initial enrollment of six students. Beverly Eckhardt purchased the school in 1975 and the following year, Ms. Eckhardt offered only Montessori programs at Sage School, changing the name to Sage Montessori School.
The Montessori teaching method provides a basis for individualized learning activities, appropriate for even the earliest stages of a child's development. Children flourish in the prepared environment that respects, supports, and responds to their basic needs for independence, exploration, and the building of trust and self-esteem.
The Board of Directors establishes all policies for Sage Cottage Preschool. The Parent Handbook is provided to assist parents in understanding the philosophy, program, and techniques applied in our school. It also serves to enhance the understanding of factors contributing to student success, including open communication with Sage Cottage staff and parent involvement.
