Services
In California, divorce is a "no fault" state, meaning that either spouse can elect to terminate the marriage, whether or not both parties are in agreement, and regardless of what went wrong during the marriage. A divorce legally terminates the marital status of both parties and requires spouses to divide the assets and debts they have acquired during the course of the marriage.
Although every situation is unique, below is an overview of the divorce process in California. The date of separation determines the date that all earnings, acquisitions and liabilities are designated as each party's respective separate property. For example, anything you do from which you derive income is considered your separate property from the date of separation.
By far, the most stressful and agonizing period in one's life is determining how to share custody of your child. There are so many moving pieces to address, and on top of it all, the legalities of custody division can become complex. For starters, you should have a basic understanding for how custody is apportioned under California Law, and what it means.
In California, payment of child support is of paramount importance. That is because the public policy for child support ensures that a child is taken care of until he or she reaches the age of 18 and completes high school. The purpose of child support is to afford children the basic necessities of life, and allows the child to share in the standard of living of both parents.
Family law mediation is an excellent, cost-effective tool for dissolving a marriage privately and amicably. Mediation can address all, or some, of the issues involved in a dissolution, including division of assets and debts, child custody, child and spousal support, and other ancillary issues. In a best case scenario, a complete settlement agreement can be reached and filed with the court without you ever having to appear in court.

I found this law firm through my employment as Alana Braunstein participates in ARAG. I chose her for her experience in family law. Alana and her paralegal are quick to respond to my emails and are always available for a phone consultation if needed. With the courts being closed, Alana showed up to all my video related appearances and gave me the option to come in to the office or listen in from home. It was a pleasure working with Braunstein LAW, APC on my divorce. We had a consensual divorce, uncontested. However, we also had an unusual custom alimony arrangement to make it so. Alana made the process no fuzz, and made it within the deadline to still get the old tax laws. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that my anxiety early on in the process was high, and it sometimes felt that responsiveness did not match my anxiety. However, in hindsight, I think this was more my problem than theirs. It all was done such as to be maximally efficient, and minimally waste my or their time. I'd go
