In 1994, Dr. McAlpin completed his BA in political science from Duke University. He was then accepted to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he would complete his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1999. He would then go on to a three-year Internal Medicine Residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester, NY.
After residency, he would serve at Senior Instructor in Clinical Medicine, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Strong Memorial Hospital, and also as a Clinical Faculty Member of the General Medicine Unit with primary responsibilities as resident preceptor in a busy inner city ambulatory clinic.
