Services
The cottage style engulfs and encompasses some of the designs found in the Country, French, and English Cottage style house plans. It is usually considered as a small, modest, cozy cabin type of plan often built in rural type areas. On the other hand, this is a regional definition, as in places such as Canada, there is no relation to the size of the house when referring to it as a cottage.
This style of house plan is basically a farmhouse style plan which draws some of its concepts and themes and elements from the French Country style. The roofline for this style will usually be parallel to the road, but not always. You will likely find the use of multiple dormers that often face the front of the house as well.
Craftsman-style homes consist of a variety of aesthetic features such as exposed rafter and beam ends, corbels in the gables, over-hanging eaves, and shed dormers. These types of homes were created during the early 20th century during the arts and crafts movement. The exterior of these styles of homes are usually made of stone or wood siding.
These types of plans are similar to barn house plans, or more traditional farm style living designs, or even may include elements of some country-style house plans as well. But the point is that farmhouse-style plans are one of the most varied styles you will come across. As farmhouse plans usually feature a large eat-in kitchen with more conventional designs including an oversize island to facilitate this.
Stucco, stone, brick, or other materials make up the exterior of this style of home. Old World House style features the use of multiple gables and roof lines. Many have said that this style of house plan has elements that make it appear to have features similar to a castle. You will usually find this style of home as a one and a half to two-story floor plan.
