After living in Colorado almost 40 years, I finally made an old dream come true by getting to photograph the National Western Stock Show professionally. In 2019 I volunteered to work for the NWSS. After working the Rodeo All-Stars event and the Denver County Fair, I was definitely looking forward to getting to participate in the main event.

Polk loves to photograph landscapes as well as portraits. She grew up in the outdoors working with horses, which she continues to do and many of her pictures have been captured from the saddle. She creates dramatic portraits by using the light to guide the eye to the subject.

Melissa was simply incredible. I needed a great shot of my horse -- to give as a high school graduation gift to the former owner and for myself. I had met Melissa for her leather work (another story) and asked her if she could do this photo shoot for me. No hesitation. She first set this up in the indoor arena but that did not work, since my horse needs to move to get his ears looking pretty. So, we went to the outdoor arena and Melissa took her time to get the right shot of my horse cantering. And then I saw the proofs and was wowed. Melissa is incredibly professional and really personable. Easy

I've been very fortunate to see Polk in action and see much of the finished results. Stunning, inspiring and just plain exciting image work. I certainly like her interesting choices of backgrounds, scenery and composition.

I was part of a wedding that Melissa took pictures for back in May of 2017. The wedding pictures were incredible. The scenery she chose was beautiful and complimented the wedding couple perfectly. I was impressed how much time she took making everyone feel comfortable, enabling her to capture people naturally rather than staged looking in her pictures. Beautiful work. I would highly recommend Melissa.
