Services
Academy is a martial arts school located in the heart of downtown Downey, in beautiful southern California. Academy offers classes for both children and adults; whether they are just starting their journey in martial arts, or are seasoned competitors looking to perfect their craft. With a combined experience of over 20 years in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our curriculum is led by world-class black belt instructors Hector Beltran and Mateo Tenzera.
As part of our Academy Combat Division program, our members also receive training in muay thai, kickboxing and other striking disciplines. We understand that starting any martial arts journey can be a bit intimidating therefore we would welcome you to come to experience our family-friendly, no-ego, clean-and-safe environment by trying a class.

Coach Euler joins us from Curitiba, Brazil and is a Muay Thai black belt from the famous Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil where great fighters like Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, and Mauricio Shogun Rua received their martial arts training. He has coached many MMA and kickboxing fighters including former Glory light heavyweight champion Saulo Cavalari.
Coach Tristin leads the 5-7 year old beginner's class with fun techniques, enthusiasm and discipline. He also assists in all the advanced kids classes and is a technical opponent in our adult program. He has vast experience in wrestling and MMA and is currently training Muay Thai to complete his MMA profile and one day fight professionally.

I’ve had my daughter enrolled in Academy for almost 3 years now and the staff is amazing! All the professors and coaches are very patient and encouraging, they bring out the best in these kids. I can’t even begin to explain how it feels to see how far along my daughters jiu jitsu skills have improved and the look of excitement on her little face when she’s at academy. Academy really does feel like a second family and I cannot imagine us going anywhere else.

ACADEMY…. The name should be changed to family (Dominic Toretto’s voice) because that is what this has become to me. I was very intimidated with bjj but excited to embark on this journey. I researched of few schools before making my decision to join Academy and I am happy to say it has been one of the best decision I have made for my personal growth. Everyone at this school is so encouraging and so friendly that it’s hard not to feel at home. My boys have been at Academy since the age of 5 and now have been training for over 2.5 years. The first thing that grabbed our attention was how patient the staff was with a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds. They took their time to teach each kid the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu. The staff made training fun and at our amazement, our kids would pay attention for the entire hour, a feat that is not easily done. :) The training has paid off in all aspects. I have had the pleasure of training at Academy the last two years. Jiu Jitsu can be an intimidating sport where egos inflate, causing students to leave before ever really giving it a chance. I’m happy to write that you will not find any of that at this gym. My experience has been one of warm welcome; where students and faculty are held to a standard of respect and lifting one another up. My time with Academy has been absolutely incredible. When I first joined it was definitely nerve wrecking, knowing absolutely nothing about grappling; but the the instructors and classmates were so inviting and helpful. The professors and coaches are extremely knowledgeable and willing to guide you through technique or offer helpful advice during a live sparring session. Speaking of sparring, I've had some incredible experiances from flow rolling with a fellow white belt to using every trick I have against a higher belt it's always a great learning experience. Plus if jiujitsu isn't an interest

I got my start with BJJ at this school and cannot say enough good things about it. The staff are professional and skilled and the students are welcoming and friendly. It's got a family atmosphere but is still very focused on training. They train hard there and genuinely love and enjoy teaching the sport.
