State law requires construction to be done by licensed contractors. You have applied for a permit under an exemption to that law. The exemption provided in section 444-2(7), Hawaii Revised Statutes, allows you, as the owner or lessee of your property, to act as your general contractor even though you do not have a license.

I worked with Jimmy Wu and his team on obtaining permit to do a complete renovation of my house. The home I just purchased was illegally renovated (more rooms and bathrooms were added without permit). Jimmy and his team came and made suggestions to create a working plan for us to make it all legal without too much alteration as money was an issue for us. His team was very professional, nice and patient. I had since recommended them to 5 of my friends. Their knowledge in architecture and their diligent had help us a lot in renovating our home and obtaining the permit quick. I highly recommend them
