Western Mass Martial Arts Academy
Western Mass Martial Arts Academy was established in 2000, focusing on the techniques, traditions and values of classical Japanese and Okinawan Karate, Judo and Jujutsu. We draw from these techniques the most efficient and effective methods of self defense. Our training is always evolving to meet the needs of today, but maintains a core of time tested, proven training methods.

Our Chief Instructor has been teaching in Western Mass for over 24 years.
Services
Enrollment at Western Mass Martial Arts Academy is simple. Come in and meet with one of our instructors and discuss what you want in a school and what we offer. All instructors have the appropriate forms, or, you may download and print from the Enrollment Forms page. We do not require annual contracts.
Shobukan Karate, as is most modern styles, is derived from a combination of systems of defense with roots in China, Okinawa and Japan. Our primary inspirations come from the Kyokushin Karate system founded by Sosai Mas Oyama. The unmatched power of Oyama's Hand techniques, Kicks and Blocks are the foundation of Shobukan's daily practice.
All Classes heve returned to their regular format. PLease do not come to class if you have any symptoms of illness, including but not limited to: Persistent cough, Fever, Chills, persistent joint or muscle pain, sneezing, etc. Contact Shihan Majane if you have any concerns. Due to the pandemic and resulting shutdowns, we did not have testing for much of last year.
Our Founder, O Sensei Mark Pearlman began his martial arts training in May of 1988. He quickly moved up the ranks and earned his 1st black belt in 1990. Since then he has achieved 5th degree black belt ranking in karate and 4th degree black belt ranking in Judo.

Because he is the head of a recognized system he was awarded his 7th degree black belt in both Shobukan Karate and Shobukan Judo/Jujutsu from The World Organizer of Martial Arts in Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. He has been elected a Fellow of The Institute of Martial Arts and Sciences in London, England.
As we expect many newcomers to our arts along with the start of the new school year, this month's Yudanshakai will feature an examination of our Goshin Waza syllabus, along with teaching points for new students. We may even have a visit from an old friend. Don't miss it! Hidden in the Sales tactics of many commercial Martial Arts Schools, there is a disturbing trend.
