Most law firms do all SSD/SSI cases on a contingency basis. Lawyers take a percentage or pre-determined amount (determined under federal statutes) of the backpay you are awarded. If you are not granted SSD/SSI benefits, then the attorney typically does not collect anything. SSI is usually reserved for individuals with very low incomes, and/or those that have not worked long enough in order to earn SSD benefits.
Mr. Nicholson and his team were incredibly proactive with my application for disability. They showed me and explained all the details to look out for and how to fill out the documents sent to me directly by SSI. While the paperwork is very straight forward, there are some snags which could have delayed my application.
