Roaring Fork Aikikai is an aikido dojo founded in 2017 in Carbondale, CO, serving the Roaring Fork Valley including Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs. Our purpose is to provide world class instruction in the martial art of aikido according to the principles of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba.
We aim to provide an open, supportive, and accepting environment to begin your aikido journey so that the confidence and awareness you foster in the dojo may follow you out into your daily life. Roaring Fork Aikikai offers aikido classes for adults and teens ages 14 and up from beginners to advanced.

Roaring Fork Aikikai (RFA) is an aikido dojo founded in 2017 in Carbondale, CO, serving the Roaring Fork Valley including Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs. A non-profit 501 (c) (3) charity, RFA's mission is to teach martial arts and meditation to community members of all ages.
You are welcome to come and try a class for free. You don't have to be physically fit or have a martial arts background. No uniform is needed, just wear comfortable exercise clothing such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. Alternatively, you're welcome to come and observe any class on our schedule. This will give you a good feel for the classes, and an opportunity to ask questions of the instructor and dojo members.
Roaring Fork Aikikai's adults and teens aikido program is designed to respond to the needs of adults and teens ages 14 and up. Men and women of all skill levels and physical ability are welcome. Those who want powerful self defense training and intensive physical conditioning will be matched with senior instructors and aikidoka who will take them to their edge.
At Roaring Fork Aikikai we teach Aikiken (the sword of Aikido) and Aikijo (the staff of Aikido) throughout our curriculum to help students to better understand the root foundations of Aikido techniques. Training with the bokken (wooden sword) and jo (wooden staff) helps students to understand the fundamentals behind each aikido technique.
Roaring Fork Aikikai holds multiple aikido seminars and related events each year at our dojo, inviting in some of the leading aikido instructors in the country. This is a way of building community and keeping our students connected to the cutting edge of aikido practice. Practitioners from all aikido backgrounds and federations are welcome.
