Services
Reliable Recycling was founded in 1918 by Maurice Sclar, who originally named the business Reliable Junk Company. Maurice emigrated from Eastern Europe to Gettysburg, PA, around 1910 to work for his uncle. He traveled south into Frederick County on his horse-drawn wagon, visiting area farms and businesses and purchasing scrap metals and other materials.
Our founder, Maurice Sclar, moved to the Frederick area in 1918 to start his business. Since then, four generations of Sclar family members have lived in the Frederick area and headed Reliable Recycling. We also employ area residents helping to improve the local economy. Reliable Recycling was founded in 1918.
Copper is commonly sorted into five main categories: bare bright wire, #1, #2, light copper, and insulated wire. Insulated wire is sorted and priced based on the percentage of copper we can recover after the insulation is removed. Aluminum is sorted into many different grades. The most common classes are extrusions, cast, siding, beverage cans, alloy wheels, and electrical wire.
Reliable Recycling reserves the right to refuse any material that we believe has the potential to be harmful in any way to our environment or may jeopardize the health and safety of our customers, our employees, our facility or equipment. Some of the above mentioned materials are very hazardous. We are not HAZMAT experts.
In order to better serve our customers, Reliable Recycling offers roll-off container service to make the scrap metal recycling process easier. We provide open-top roll-off containers in a variety of sizes to accommodate your scrap metal recycling needs. We offer 30, 35, and 40 yard containers with the main difference being the height of the sides (5ft, 6ft, and 7ft).
