Managing your business's "location data" is the most important (and least understood) way to make sure customers are finding you and not your competitors. Google and the other search engines check hundreds of directories (sites like Yellow Pages, Yellow Bot, Manta, Hotfrog, Dex, and dozens you've likely never heard of) to determine whose information is most accurate.
Whoever Google thinks is the most accurate. Social Media has become the ultimate "Catch-22" for most businesses. If you ignore it, your business seems "cold and out-of-touch", but once you make that first post if you stop you seem "dated" or even out-of-business.
