Services
Dr. Gary I. Markowitz founded the Delaware Eye Care Center in 1984. His skill as a cataract surgeon and commitment to transforming the way people see granted him and the practice national recognition. Dr. Markowitz was the first cataract surgeon in Delaware to implant a Restor multifocal intraocular lens and one of the first doctors to perform Laser Vision Correction in the state.
Delaware Eye Care Center works for you. From the services we offer to the surgical procedures we perform, our practice centers around finding ways in which we can best serve our patients, both new and existing. Providing you with complete care is our top priority. That is, walking alongside you and your loved ones every step of the way - consultation, diagnosis, treatment, restoration.
A cataract is the clouding effect on a person's natural eye lens. These natural lenses work much like a camera, making it possible for us to focus on objects and process what we're seeing. When cataracts form, the eye's ability to focus on the objects before them decreases. Is surgery necessary? Surgery is only recommended if your cataract(s) is presenting problems with daily activities such as reading or driving.
The retina is light-sensitive tissue that lines the back interior of the eye. This tissue is responsible for turning light into signal for the brain which, ultimately, results in the images we see. Retinal tears occur when the vitreous, a gel-like substance that fills the middle of our eye, pulls hard against the retina, lifting it off the back of the eye.
Dry eye syndrome is a condition in which there is an insufficient production of tears, leaving the eye without proper moisture and lubrication. This condition affects millions of individuals worldwide and is the most common reason that patients visit their eye doctor. Not only does dry eye syndrome cause irritation and discomfort but, if left untreated, it can cause impaired vision, eye infection, and scarring.

I love the self check-in process, easiest thus far.
Office staff very friendly and helpful. As well as the optics center.
I received such a thorough eye exam. Every single step was explained and why it was being done. For years I had no idea what was being done or why.
Truly hope things stay this way. Definitely a different experience from past visits. The staff seemed to be able to focus and give quality care due to not being over burdened.

Well they don’t have any negative stars.
That’s why I gave 1 star
I have waited several months for my daughters appointment.
Only to find out 4 days prior that another doctor has left.
And the new doctor doesn’t take my insurance. And they can’t even schedule an appointment for me yet.
So when I called to see about getting my records released. they told me I need to pay $10.00. Like it’s my fault you people can’t get it together.
We will see what happens when this Karen goes to pick up the records today.. stay tuned.
Go somewhere else.. something is going on in that office. doctors

Wait time was always super long!!! I have been wearing contacts for 15+ years. All of a sudden I get a new doctor to look at me and he says he won’t write me a new prescription for contacts and that I have to wear glasses from now on. He said it’s that or I go to a different doctor. Well I went to a completely new place and now I’m so much happier. I won’t name this great new eye doctor center, But little to no wait time. Great doctors who care. And I got my contacts. Never going my back to Delaware eye care again!
