According to Elkhart Historian, Paul Thomas, there has been a floral shop at the corner of Main and Marion since the early 1930's. First it was called Pickrell's Flowers. Then in mid 1940's Vera and Richard Matzke purchased the store and renamed it Matzke Florist. They operated the store until 1985 when Stan and Linda Rupnow and their three girls purchased the store.

This was my first time purchasing flowers ever. I called Matske's and within probably 10 minutes, I had placed my order. The woman I spoke with was very kind and helpful (I wish I could remember her name!) I ordered a fall arrangement and asked to keep it under $50. I also asked if I could have one sunflower :). This was one of the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen! Pictures don't do it justice. I will definitely be a repeat customer!
FYI - if you have any issues with the actual "arrangement" of the flowers, we elected to do it ourselves. The Matzke florists would most likely make it look

I ordered a flower delivery for my husband’s grandma’s birthday. She lives in Elkhart and we couldn’t visit that day, so we sent a flower arrangement. I had an arrangement delivered to friends in Elkhart. It was for a celebratory afternoon party and I had never been to their home, so I described and arrangement that I would want to receive. I spoke with a knowledgeable and intuitive person who instantly translated my words celebration, summertime and welcoming, into sunflowers, hydrangeas and a blue flower with which I’m unfamiliar. The flowers and added greenery made a stunning arrangement. What was equally impressive was that the day before delivery the florist sent me a picture of the arrangement for my approval. First time going here my wife was blow away by this arrangement that was delivered to her work. (Edit not true see below[The vase was hand made by a local artist i didn't even know elkhart had glass blowers]). Will be going here for all my flower needs, also got a nice plant...update one week later flowers still in full bloom see last photo did a great job of combining flowers that opened later for a lasting effect... Hate to do this but i was told the vase was done by a local artist it is not it is an rcr cristalleria italiana wayfair has them for 53$

I am so impressed. Not a believer in calling 800# for floral arrangements. I refer to support local wherever the event is. Sadly this one was for a funeral. Michelle wowed me with her comprehension and together we selected this stunning arrangement with a windchime . She was thorough, knowledgeable and kind. Totally exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend purchased flowers for my mother's funeral through FTD. He paid $250 for them. When they arrived, they were already wilting. The arrangement he paid for was supposed to have 10 white roses, there were 6. He paid for the "middle arrangement" and it was clear we received the cheaper one.
I understand that it was kind of last minute, but I feel like they should have informed us. Or refunded us. We were just too upset to deal with it.

As a pastor I have trusted Matzke florist for many years. I really thought they could never get better, because they are always perfect, today they proved me wrong. The piece they made this afternoon for a very heartbreaking funeral service was beyond perfect. All I said was a few words and the next thing I knew it was better than I could have dreamed up. I ordered flowers a day ahead and when I stopped to pick them up the door wasn't even unlocked at 8 a.m. which is their posted opening time. The roses were brown and very full already. I asked if they had something else, and, although they did and changed the order for me, they tried to tell me the full bloomed, brown-tinged roses were absolutely fresh and would last. I did not just fall off the turnip truck. I am, however, happy with the change they made. Just not happy with what they initially tried to convince me was fresh.

I used this florist because of reputation but they use a business practice that really is offensive. They charge for the product, they charge for delivery, and on top of that they charge a service fee. I did not notice the service fee until I had already checked out. I would not use them again based on the fact that they use this little slip in charge to rip customers off. I am sure they do not charge the walk in customers a service charge and they have to actually spend time with them. On the online all they have to do is print off the order and fill it. Will not use them again based on

I have repeatedly called Matzke's for both my grandmother's birthday as well as my mother's birthday. Both were enormously pleased with the arrangements they received from Matzke's. Not living in the Elkhart area any longer, I still wanted to use a local florist as my family is still there. They delivered the same day and both my mother and grandmother said they were beautiful. Thanks Matzke's, for making my life a little easier, many times over.
