Services
Whether your professional Polynesian group wants to brush up on your skills or your hula halau wants to try something new, we're happy to help. Need a new routine for your dance company's Polynesian revue, a special number for a talent show, or even a hula for your wedding? We'll create unique choreography, just for you.
Tehani and Kim crossed paths through New York Polynesian dance circles and for years thought about ways to collaborate. Finally, in the spring 2015, they brought together a few friends for casual dance classes. When the session ended, enthusiasm was high for more. Excited to continue high quality Tahitian dance instruction and to spread awareness of this unique art, they founded Ori Manea Tahitian Dance School.
Our philosophy is firmly founded in the dance as it is taught and performed in Tahiti today, and our instruction is based on the style of one of Tahiti's most famous and exciting dance companies, Tumata Robinson's Tahiti Ora. The legendary Tumata Robinson founded her first dance group in the 1970s, in the middle of the Tahitian dance revival.
Our classes are welcoming and energetic and teach authentic, contemporary Tahitian dance. We offer beginner classes for dancers to focus on building a strong foundation, and a weekly intermediate to advanced level class for dancers with more experience. If you've never danced but always wanted to try, this is the class for you!
Ori Manea puts on beautiful annual showcases and performs at events all over the NYC area. From public cultural events celebrating the diversity of NYC to small private shows, we're always excited about opportunities to share Tahitian culture through authentic, exciting dance. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the classes with Ori Manea! Tehani, the instructor, brings a wealth of knowledge and skill, and balances it with patience, fun and clear directions. The class environment is warm and welcoming, so it's not intimidating if you're trying out a new move or forget a step; I definitely feel I'm among friends when I step into the room. I'm from Tahiti and was in NYC for work and needed a workout! I had heard that Tehani Benjamin (trained by the top dance company in Tahiti) had created a dance school in the Big Apple, so I looked it up, and WOW she's amazing! It's a great workout, the instructor's obviously passionate and incredibly skilled, and the group's really fun!! Try it, it's worth it!!
