Onion River Animal Hospital was founded in 1983 by Dr. Colleen Bloom, when she moved to Vermont to escape the city life. Today Onion River Animal Hospital is a small, full-service animal hospital that has seen steady growth over the last 35+ years. Dr. Karen Bradley joined the practice in 2000 and is now the owner of Onion River Animal Hospital.
Did you know that you can reach us at ORAH anytime? During business hours, call or text our hospital from your phone at 802-223-7765 and we will get back to you ASAP. If you need to reach us after hours- use Airvet to reach a vet or page the vet on call. You should use both! PetDesk is our loyalty rewards program that also allows you to schedule appointments, view your pet's medical history, and request a medication refill.
If you are experiencing an emergency during our business hours (M-F 8am-8pm, Saturday 8am-4pm), please call us immediately and we will be happy to assist you. If you are experiencing an emergency after-hours, you can receive immediate Telemedicine Triage through our Airvet app. If an immediate visit to an emergency vet is necessary, we recommend the following emergency hospitals.
PAWSitive Pantry, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded in 2009 to provide a safety net to help pets whose families have fallen on hard times. Through a liaison with the Vermont Foodbank we deliver dog and cat food to food shelves throughout the state of Vermont.
Through the American Veterinary Medical Foundation's Veterinary Care Charitable Fund, our hospital is able to help animals rescued from abuse and neglect and the pets of clients facing personal hardships.Your donations to the AVMF on behalf of our hospital will help us help animals.

For your protection, and that of others, all dogs must be on a leash and properly controlled while in the waiting area or exam rooms. All cats must be presented in an appropriate carrier. An annual examination is required in order to fill any prescriptions. If you are not a current client, we are unauthorized to prescribe any medications; please contact our office to schedule an examination.

I am new to the area and have a 15 year old cat and a 6 month old puppy. ORAH was a great find! They are all very kind and professional and obviously are passionate about caring for animals. The vets take the time to explain things well and communication re: follow up is great - they will send an email with test results and suggestions/options based on those results. I also like the way the office is split in half - a dog side and a cat side... definitely helps ease some anxiety for the cats I'm sure!

I have been going to Onion River Animal Hospital for years. I trust them. They have always provided excellent, care for all of my pets, both cats and dogs. Recently they received special certification as a fear free hospital. This means they take special care to ensure that all pets have good positive experiences at the vet, free from undue stress. I feel like ORAH has always had this attitude, but now they've refined it. This is perfect for me now, as have I rescued a German Shepherd who really needs this extra care. Once again ORAH delivers!

From the greeting through the door we were made to feel very welcomed. Every staff member was super nice and made an effort to make us all feel comfortable. They all were gentle and efficient and everyone took time to answer all my questions. I like that they offer a lot of communication options. They also suggested we stop in for a visit when out and about so the animal doesn't just perceive it as a place to be poked and prodded. Great experience.

As a new patient, they got us a visit in record time. I didn't have to argue with anyone! I didn't have to FIGHT for my cat's health. I finally feel like I found a place where we're working TOGETHER to find a solution and I'm not being spoken down to. Thank you. I actually had to fight happy tears in the office.

Haven't had a single problem with these guys. They are all super nice, and professional. They give me advice on things that I can do better without trying to shame me in or out of behavior. They don't try to push me on sales for products. I have recommended this place to people in the past, and I'm sure I will in the future.

This place is awesome place they treat both you and your animals decent I recommend this place to everyone we have to drive almost a hour to get there but definitely worth the trip A++😍 all of the staff was pleasant to deal with and actually cared about my dog 🐶 thank you 🙏

We have to older greyhounds and we were in need of a new veterinarian after have recently moved to Montpelier from California. Onion River has been able to accommodate us with appointments whenever we need them. The reception staff, vets and techs we have seen are knowledgeable, patient and have a true love for animals. The parking area and the practice itself is very neat and clean with ample space (which also helps our dogs to feel comfortable). They are very upfront about prices of procedures etc. which we appreciate. We are grateful to have found such a great veterinary practice to care for

Our awesome pup got a fast-moving, aggressive cancer and when our normal vet was slow to respond we contacted Onion River. They were incredibly kind and patient despite squeezing us in within hours of us calling. Even though we had to say goodbye to him that day, we got to do so outside in the sun while he was made as comfortable as possible. Thank you!

Very grateful for the immediate attention to Dani our Aussie. We were up from Boston and our dog was sick with a digestive issue. We were able to get a same day appointment and Dr Flynn saw her and prescribed… and administered fluids and anti nausea meds. She even found a cracked tooth and recommended oral tick meds that were MDR1 mutant safe.
The facility is so new and clean and the staff were very friendly and kind. We were also in and out within a hour at a very reasonable price.
We highly recommend Dr Flynn and Onion River Animal hospital.

I’m so grateful for the home visit today. The care, compassion and confidence Dr Karen and Jamison expressed was amazing. The fear free meds helped my fearful anxious cat Tirzah fly through the visit and she even snuck up on the treat container and knocked them on the floor while we were only a few feet away. What a stinker she is. They were great with Cosette, too. Kudos to ORAH. Thankful.

Can’t imagine bringing my pets anywhere else. The entire staff is so knowledgeable, friendly, caring and patient. Even with COVID going on, they are so quick and efficient and have the best attitudes and have everybody’s safety in mind. Very thankful for such great people who care so much about animals! Will never stop recommending!
