The seeds for Athens Physical Therapy were planted in 1999, when Chris Doerr-an emergency physician at Athens Regional Medical Center-began Physicians Back and Neck Clinic in the lower level of the round Atlanta Gas Light building across Prince Avenue from the hospital. The mission was simple: help heal body ills with purposeful exercise.
Dry needling is a manual technique used by physical therapists to reduce muscle spasm, improve mobility, and reduce pain. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) involves the use of specialized tools and techniques to help resolve pain, tightness, and movement dysfunction in the body. Manual therapy is any hands-on treatment your physical therapist uses to help you regain motion, improve muscle performance, or simply reduce pain.
We have two convenient locations serving Athens and Lavonia, GA as well as their surrounding communities. We have a highly skilled staff that has many years of experience, training, and certifications in numerous areas of rehabilitation. Although Athens Physical Therapy began as a Spine Specialty Clinic, we have evolved over the years to specialize in a variety of areas including pre and post op orthopedics, sport-specific rehab, and neurological rehabilitation.

I have had therapy here two different times. First time Allen was my therapist, he was great. The second time Jason was my therapist and he was fabulous. Jason is very patient with you and makes sure you understand everything he is doing. From my observation everyone there is awesome! From the front desk to the assistant you can’t beat any of them everyone makes you feel comfortable. You can’t go wrong going here.

After months of seeing multiple doctors and going to another PT in town, I was still seeking answers for my back pain. I came to see Dr. Doerr as my last hope. It was my meeting with him where I was finally diagnosed and on the right track to becoming well. I started PT and have had sessions with Allison, Ross, and Alan. Each session is tailored to my specific needs and is complimented with their expert advice and genuine concern for my overall well-being. I look forward to going to my sessions and reaching my goals. I enjoy going to Athens's PT. The physical therapist’s are excellent and my lower back is improving. My body is getting stronger weekly. It is a great place to go for overall back care. The personnel is delightful. The physician in the office, Dr Doerr, is a good diagnostician and takes all the time you need to go over your problems and answers all your questions before he assigns to a therapist. You do not receive this kind of care in all facilities.
